What We’re Looking For
As a Staff Software Engineer , you’ll be at the heart of designing and building the scalable infrastructure that powers everything behind Puzzle. This hands‑on, high‑impact role involves shaping architecture, driving scalability, and ensuring reliability of core systems that support our product. You’ll work across the stack— from small feature development to engineering complex, large‑scale systems— while analyzing and troubleshooting critical systems, integrating new technologies, and creating tools that continuously improve our platform. Most importantly, you’ll help define how financial data is ingested, transformed, and surfaced as clear, trustworthy insights for thousands of companies.
This is a hybrid role based in the San Francisco Bay Area . We consider candidates who currently reside in the Bay Area or are open to relocating.
What You’ll Do
- Design and implement core infrastructure to support high‑availability, low‑latency systems and services at scale.
- Build and productize critical components of our financial system, laying the groundwork for a powerful yet intuitive solution.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve performance, resilience, and developer velocity across our platform.
- Partner with product, design, and data teams to translate business needs into well‑defined technical implementations.
- Work cross‑functionally to troubleshoot complex systems and serve as a technical voice in navigating trade‑offs and prioritization.
- Craft technical solutions to high‑impact business challenges while staying attuned to broader company contexts.
- Guide and mentor other engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical leadership— including onboarding and training as needed.
Who You Are
BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.7+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of architecting and delivering complex backend systems.Deep understanding of system architecture and the interconnected layers that make complex systems work seamlessly together.Past experience in system design and scaling large data applications.Solid experience in database design and analytics, with proficiency in SQL and NoSQL.Experience optimizing system and application performance, with a strong track record in debugging and troubleshooting large‑scale software.Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a strong team ethic.Demonstrated ability to deliver work with precision and high accuracy.Comfortable operating in a high‑ownership, fast‑paced startup environment.Passion for mentoring and growing engineering talent.What’s in it for you?
