We are actively seeking an experienced, dynamic, highly motivated team player to join us as a Principal Parks / Facilities Maintenance Worker-CDL on our custodial team at the Meadowbrook Maintenance Facility, located in Chevy Chase, MD.
The Southern Parks Division meets both local and regional leisure needs by providing opportunities for a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities in the most densely populated areas of Montgomery County. The division manages over 200 parks, including Urban, Local, and Regional Parks. Included in these parks are almost 200 employees and 100 pieces of equipment to accomplish the Department's mission.
Under the general supervision of a Parks / Facilities Maintenance Leader, the selected candidate will play a key role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of park facilities and grounds. This includes offices, restrooms, and Park Activity Buildings (PABs), as well as outdoor areas. Seasonal responsibilities may include snow detail and removal. This position involves a variety of custodial and routine maintenance tasks to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for park visitors. The Custodial Worker will work both independently and as part of a team, occasionally leading career and / or seasonal staff on assigned projects. The ideal candidate should also possess skills to operate trucks, tractors with attachments, large riding mowers, loaders, and forklifts (some of which will require a CDL Commercial Driver's License). Trade skills in carpentry and painting are a plus. Other duties as assigned that fall under the classification specification of this grade.

Please note : The salary range listed above represents the earning potential for this position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
General cleaning and sanitation : Clean and sanitize restrooms, offices, public-use buildings, and workspaces. Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors, and sanitize surfaces. Dust furniture, walls, and equipment. Empty and clean trash containers and recycling bins. Work collaboratively with teams of career and seasonal staff, occasionally taking a lead role on small projects.
Facility maintenance support : Monitor inventory and restock supplies in bathrooms and common areas. Perform minor repairs. Report damage or maintenance needs to supervisors.
Outdoor maintenance : Maintain exterior areas such as entrances, walkways, and parking lots. Pick up litter and debris around park grounds. Assist with seasonal tasks like snow removal or leaf collection. Responds to emergencies and inclement weather conditions such as hurricanes, blizzards, and earthquakes.
Event & operational support : Prepare spaces for daily use or special events. Move and arrange furniture as needed. Respond to emergency clean-up requests.
Preferred qualifications : 3+ years in custodial or janitorial work is beneficial. Familiarity with the safety of cleaning agents and equipment. Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work independently or as part of a team while managing time efficiently. Proven ability to read and understand materials and instructions, and write routine records and reports. The physical ability to constantly kneel, bend, twist, lift, and perform repetitive tasks. The ability to work nights, weekends, days, and / or any combination thereof. An essential employee on-call 24 hours for any emergencies.
Working conditions : Primarily works outside but may work inside on occasion or as assigned. May work weekends, evenings, and holidays. Occasionally exposed to inclement weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (e.g., bees, hornets, wasps) and plants (e.g., poison ivy). Ability to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds and regularly up to 50 pounds.
Additional information : Incumbent will be required to possess a CDL or have the ability to attain one within 12 months of employment. Work schedule : Monday Friday, 6 : 00 a.m. 2 : 45 p.m.
