SUMMARY
Reporting to the Office Manager, the Truck driver is responsible for delivering sack feed to assigned animal feed stores and retail locations in a safe and efficient manner. This position is responsible for the safe and legal operation of the company’s automatic semi-truck, dry van with lift gate and electric pallet jack, as well as timely delivery of product, comprehension of various transportation documents and operating necessary mechanical controls while demonstrating safe driving practices. Will interact with customers in a professional and appropriate manner to ensure effective communication regarding customer problems and requests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Transports product to assigned location ensuring timely delivery of product
- Ensures proper handling and unloading of product to assure safety and minimal risk of damage
- Provides safe and timely transportation of product from origin to destination
- Responsible for safe and legal operation of commercial motor vehicle in accordance with all local, state, federal, DOT laws and company policies
- Inspects vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues
- Reports to assigned dispatcher or supervisor on a daily basis for route instructions
- Reports defects, accidents, or violations
- Communicate with all levels of staff in the organization
- Complete necessary paperwork / documentation related to truck operations and product such as logs
- May load and unload trailers; secures loads safely and accurately
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform other duties and / or special projects as assigned.Work in warehouse as needed or as a backup.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of :
DOT and state regulations governing safe driving, hours of service inspectionSafe and legal operation of a commercial motor vehicleVehicle safety and control systemsAbility to :
Communicate effectively with all levels of staff throughout the organizationBuild and maintain positive working relationships with all co-workers and staffWork overtime as neededComplete all necessary paperwork / documentation related to truck operations and productMeet and maintain the medical standards of the US DOTMaintain logs and handle other paperwork as requiredExperience and Training Guidelines :
2 year experience operating a Truck with a Class A License.Strong work ethic – dependable and reliableGood interpersonal, oral and written communication skillsHigh school graduate or equivalentDetail-oriented and thoroughValid California Class A commercial driver’s licenseClean DMV record and current medical cardAbility to commit to 40 hour work weeks, M-F (local deliveries, able to go home every evening)Forklift experienceLiftgate and electric pallet jack experience is a plusPhysical and mental requirements
