POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Behavioral Support Services is responsible for the successful management and quality of CSAAC’s behavior programs and therapies for our Vocational, Residential, and School programs. This includes developing and implementing policies, supervising staff (BCBAs and support staff), ensuring regulatory compliance, as well as CIMS compliance for all behavioral documentation. This position will also be frequently collaborating with families, CSAAC’s Nursing team, and other departments and professionals to achieve positive outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education : Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, Social Work, or a related field required. Must have a current Board-Certified Behavior Analysts Certification.

Experience : Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in behavioral services supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder or intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). At least five (5) years in a leadership / supervisory capacity managing clinical teams and programs. Demonstrated success in developing, implementing, and evaluating behavioral support programs and staff training.

Skills : Excellent clinical, supervisory and leadership skills. Knowledge of DDA regulations, and CARF standards. Demonstrated knowledge of crisis and behavior management concepts and techniques. Strong understanding of issues related to human rights. Excellent organizational problem solving and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and foster positive relationships with funding sources. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with electronic health record systems, behavioral data collection software, and MS Office Suite. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, including experience working with families, staff, and external stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop, implement, and monitor behavioral support strategies that align with CSAAC’s mission and person-centered philosophy.
  • Ensures all Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) comply with COMAR, DDA, and accreditation requirements. Approve and monitor BSPs involving restrictive procedures, ensuring Human Rights Committee review.
  • Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates BCBAs, Behavior Specialists, and other behavioral staff. Provide professional development opportunities and ensure timely completion of staff competencies.
  • Partners with Nursing, Residential, Vocational, and School teams to integrate behavioral support into holistic service delivery. Act as a liaison with families and external treatment providers.
  • Oversee behavioral data collection, analysis, and reporting to track progress, identify trends, and adjust interventions as needed.
  • Maintain adherence to all applicable regulations, including COMAR, DDA, OSHA, HIPAA, and accreditation standards (CARF / COA). Lead internal audits related to behavioral documentation and CIMS.
  • Develops and delivers staff training on Positive Behavior Supports, crisis intervention, and de-escalation strategies (e.g., BPST).
  • Participates in QA initiatives, root cause analysis for incidents, and implement corrective action plans to improve behavioral outcomes.
  • Supports development and monitor program budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
  • Provide guidance and oversight during behavioral crises and ensure post-incident debriefings and follow-up.
  • Creates and revises behavioral policies and procedures to reflect best practices and regulatory updates.

REQUIRED TRAINING / PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS

  • Maintains active BCBA and LBA credentials with continuing education requirements.
  • Completion and annual recertification of CSAAC’s Behavioral Principles and Strategies Training (BPST).
  • Certification in crisis intervention techniques within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel between CSAAC sites and participate in on-site observations.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or support individuals during behavioral interventions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
