About Braven : Braven is a national nonprofit that prepares promising college students to secure a strong first opportunity after college graduation through a career-accelerating program. We work with higher education and employer partners to offer a life-changing experience that begins with a semester-long course for college students followed by support that lasts through graduation. Our ambition is to help rebuild the middle class and revitalize the American Dream.

About the Role : Braven is hiring an Associate Director, Research to lead a portfolio of continuous improvement and thought-leadership projects from Braven's Research Agenda. This role designs and leads learning agendas, runs pilots to answer questions about program effectiveness, and translates findings into actionable insights to evolve Braven's program model. You will steward external research partnerships and qualitative research with students, higher education, and employers to shape Braven's public voice and thought-leadership efforts. The role reports to the Head of Research within the Product team.

What You'll Do

Thought leadership research and data collection (70%)

  • Lead qualitative research process end-to-end (design interview / focus group protocols, facilitate sessions, analyze data, surface actionable insights).
  • Own content creation of thought leadership papers, including outlining, drafting, and coordinating with external designers for final publication.
  • Support managing external research partnerships by synthesizing Braven's data with external research to create a compelling, unified narrative.

Continuous improvement research and data collection to strengthen our program model (25%)

  • Own a subset of continuous improvement priorities from Braven's Research Agenda.
  • Define and prioritize learning questions to monitor fidelity of implementation and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Design and run pilots and projects to answer learning questions in partnership with Product and regional teams.
  • Translate findings into strategy to inform ongoing program design and processes in partnership with Product and regional teams.
  • Synthesize findings in clear reports, presentations, dashboards for internal and external audiences.
  • Lead analyses for ad hoc data requests that inform other Braven teams.

    • Cross-functional projects (5%)

  • Be a member of Braven's cross-functional project teams as needed; contribute to centrally planned programming and strategic projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    • Requirements

    Minimum Requirements

  • BA / BS in a quantitative field or work experience demonstrating quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • 5+ years of experience in a program evaluation or analytical / learning role.
  • Proficiency in at least one statistical programming language (e.g., Stata or R).

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Preferred.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement; open to feedback.
  • Researchers mindset with enthusiasm for designing pilots and experiments.
  • Ability to tell stories with data and communicate effectively.
  • Experience leading qualitative research from start to finish with compelling narratives.
  • Experience conducting quantitative analysis with various tools in nonprofit settings often collaborating with others to apply findings.
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and able to communicate with stakeholders.
  • Technical skills : Google Suite, Slack, Jira; proficiency in at least one statistical programming language (Stata or R); Salesforce.
  • Demonstrated commitment to building strong, welcoming cultures; alignment with Braven's core values; passion to work with Braven's student Fellow population.

    Work Demands

  • Ability to work in-person in Atlanta, Chicago, or New York City.
  • Travel roughly 4 times per year for team stepbacks or staff retreats.

    • Location

    We gather in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday) and work remotely 2 days a week. Role requires living within commuting distance of one of our hubs : Atlanta, Chicago, or New York.
