EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Town of Lexington

We are currently accepting applications for the part time, 20 hours per week, position of :

Noise Bylaw Enforcement Officer

Police Department

Hourly Pay : $36.19

This is a non-benefited position working May 1st - October 31st

The REQUIRED Town of Lexington application form must be received in the Town's Human Resource

Department. This position is open until filled.

GENERAL SUMMARY :

Under the supervision of the Administrative Lieutenant and the Captain of Operations, this position is

responsible for monitoring noise levels, investigating noise complaints and enforcing Chapter 80 Noise Control

within the Town to promote a tranquil environment conducive to well-being.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Regularly patrols designated areas to monitor noise levels generated by the use of gas-powered leaf blowers.
  • Promptly responds to noise complaints filed by residents, businesses, or Town officials, and conducts

thorough investigations to ascertain the source and intensity of the noise.

  • Collaborates with law enforcement agencies, Town officials, and legal authorities to address noise-related
  • issues.

  • Issues appropriate Town Bylaw fines for violations as appropriate.
  • Conducts routine inspections of businesses, construction sites, and landscape maintenance activities to
  • ensure compliance with noise regulations and permits.

  • Maintains accurate records of noise complaints, investigations, enforcement actions, and correspondence
  • with stakeholders for administrative and legal purposes.

  • Prepares and presents testimony in court proceedings or administrative hearings related to noise violations
  • as needed.

  • Utilizes specialized equipment such as sound level meters and noise monitoring devices to measure and
  • record noise levels accurately.

  • Engages with community members through outreach programs, workshops, and public forums to address
  • concerns related to noise and landscape maintenance requirements of the bylaws.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY :

    None.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

  • Prior experience in law enforcement, code enforcement, environmental compliance, or a similar role is
  • advantageous.

  • Strong understanding of local noise regulations or bylaws.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • ADVANCED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

    None.

  • Candidate must possess and maintain a Driver's license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

    Employee must be able to walk, reach, bend, and stand for moderate periods of time as well as the ability to lift

    up to 30 lbs. Work is performed both outdoors and in a normal office environment. Employee must be able to

    operate a computer, printer, photocopier, fax machine, and other office equipment. Work requires periods of

    sitting, reaching, typing, and mousing, which requires eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
