Qualified Rate : $34.04 Per hour

The Structural Repairman is responsible for providing mechanical services to the dock facilities. The incumbent ensures prompt installations, corrective repairs and preventive maintenance to docks systems to ensure safe and reliable operation. Moreover, the position is accountable for maintaining the safety and rules set up by the Company, including CN's Code of Conduct, Dock L.I.F.E Book, and Safe Work Procedures.
Major Responsibilities
Operate mobile equipment (e.g., cranes, man lifts, boom trucks, smaller front-end loaders, snow plowing equipment, dump trucks, road maintainers and forklifts) and have an understanding of how to operate them safely
Operate, with proficiency, welders, cutting torches, portable power tools, and hand tools
Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and systems
Ensure completion of projects in alignment with the Company's standards
Provide training to those assigned as structural repairmen trainees
Verify that tools and materials are available for assigned job tasks and safe to use
Complete all required preventive maintenance reports and submit them at the end of the shift, noting any malfunctions, problems, solutions, and equipment condition
Inspect start-up, operation, and shut down of equipment to identify any potential malfunctions and solutions to ensure safe and proper operation
Use communication equipment to professionally and effectively liaise with dock personnel and any external contacts
Respond to emergency equipment and system failures
Working Conditions
Maintain work schedule in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which includes irregular hours, nights, weekends, and holidays
The role is performed in a combination of shop and outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions
Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to mitigate exposure to injury dust, fumes, and gasses
Use various tools and equipment associated with equipment, repair, and cleaning
Perform work near water, moving conveyors, equipment, vehicles, and rolling stock
Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress as well as interface with Docks Management
Requirements
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
Valid Driver's License
Certificate of education in industrial maintenance, from a trade school or college, or work experience equivalent
Required to pass the AWS D1.1 welding test on 1-inch-thick plate with backing for vertical and overhead welding
Must understand basics in gear reduction, parallel and angular alignment of couplings, removal and installation of bearings and couplings as outlined
Able to read and comprehend technical service manuals, blueprints, fabricate, and use burning equipment such as arc, air, and burning torches
Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds overhead
Knowledge with setting up and utilizing plasma cutting equipment
Training
The incumbent receives on the-job training which includes new employee safety training, hands-on training to learn the Docks Mechanical processes, and ongoing annual safety training.
This position is a unionized position. As such, pay and benefits are governed by the applicable collective agreement
