Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Adapted Curriculum Teacher to support students within the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) district. The ideal educator will be passionate about meeting the diverse needs of students following the Extended Content Standards , which are adapted extensions of the North Carolina Core Standards. This position is focused on helping students with moderate intellectual disabilities access meaningful and individualized instruction in a supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with the Extended Content Standards and individualized student goals.
Provide instruction tailored to meet the academic, social, and functional needs of students with moderate intellectual disabilities.
Administer and prepare students for the Alternate Assessment (for grades 3–5, when applicable).
Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and support staff to ensure cohesive educational planning.
Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, IEP goals, and instructional data.
Adapt instructional materials and strategies to promote student engagement and success.
Establish a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters independence and skill development.
Communicate regularly with families, administrators, and colleagues regarding student performance and goals.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Special Education or a related field.
Valid North Carolina Teaching License with an Adapted Curriculum (Adaptive) endorsement or eligibility to obtain one.
Experience working with students with intellectual disabilities preferred.
Strong collaboration, organization, and communication skills.
Must be able to work on-site daily.
IDR Job ID #468785. Pay package is based on 8 hour shifts and 40 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
