Director of Development and Marketing
Full Time, Exempt
Reports to : Executive Director
Position Summary :
The Director of Development and Marketing will be responsible for all aspects of the organization’s donor engagement and solicitation program—including annual and major gifts, foundations and grants, special events, and gift planning—as well as leading and implementing strategic marketing and communications efforts that enhance the organization’s visibility and support fundraising success. The Director also oversees the development and execution of a comprehensive stewardship strategy to cultivate and retain donors at all levels.
This position manages a team of two : the Development and Marketing Manager and the Development and Marketing Assistant.
Essential Functions :
Fundraising and Donor Engagement
- Lead all fundraising efforts on behalf of the agency, including annual fund appeals, capital campaigns, endowment growth, planned giving, donor relations, and grant research and writing.
- Plan and execute a comprehensive program to maximize philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
- Meet annual fundraising goals and budgets in collaboration with the Executive Director and Director of Finance, aligned with short- and long-term strategic objectives.
- Work closely with the Executive Director to pursue a coordinated and strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plan for annual and major gift prospects and donors.
- Develop and implement an annual giving strategy with one-year, five-year, and long-term goals.
- Maintain and continually expand a database of prospective financial donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
- Create and execute strategic, donor-centered fundraising plans aligned with agency goals, producing measurable, results-oriented outcomes.
- Develop a systematic annual operations plan that addresses both immediate and long-term development needs.
- Oversee stewardship activities including ongoing donor communications, recognition events, and personalized outreach.
- In collaboration with the Special Events Coordinator, design and manage an annual calendar of fundraising events that align with agency goals.
- Prepare and manage an annual development income and expense budget.
- Provide timely, accurate, and comprehensive reports on revenue and expenses to the Executive Director monthly, and prior to each Board of Directors meeting.
- Direct and grow the Annual Fund using data analysis, direct appeals, and innovative strategies to increase donor participation and giving by a minimum of 10% annually.
- Work with the Advancement Committee to develop new fundraising initiatives and enhance donor engagement efforts.
- Collaborate with the Foundation Board to develop a strategic fundraising plan to grow the endowment to $5 million.
Marketing and Communications
Oversee and direct the agency’s marketing, branding, and communications strategies to raise awareness and drive engagement.Develop an integrated marketing plan that supports fundraising, special events, and community engagement initiatives.Manage the organization’s presence across digital platforms, including website, email marketing, and social media channels, to communicate impact and build relationships with donors and stakeholders.Lead the creation of content and collateral that support fundraising appeals, donor reports, press releases, newsletters, and other external communications.Ensure consistent brand messaging across all platforms and materials, reinforcing the mission and values of the organization.Work in close collaboration with program, development, and executive leadership to ensure marketing initiatives align with organizational priorities and effectively tell the story of the agency’s impact.Team Leadership and Supervision
Supervise and support the Development and Marketing Manager and Development and Marketing Assistant, providing leadership, mentorship, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities.Foster a collaborative, innovative, and results-driven culture within the development and marketing team.Oversee workload distribution, set clear goals, and ensure alignment with organizational priorities.Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree required;At least 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience and demonstrated success in the fund raising and / or development.Leadership experience and skill in managing an advancement program.A thorough knowledge of both funding sources and financial planning strategies.Ability to develop, cultivate, and maintain purposeful relationships.Proven organizational and interpersonal skills; professional skills commensurate with handling cash and donor gifts.Employee Benefits :
