Job description

Sterile Processing Technician Cohort

UKSC is partnering with UKHC and BCTC to sponsor a Sterile Processing Cohort. This program combines online and in-person learning in our Sterile Processing Department, to prepare you to be certified. Individuals chosen will sign a 1-year committment to work in UKSC's Sterile Processing Department.

The Sterile Processing Technician coordinates and collaborates on the overall sterilization process, assembly, and dispensing of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies needed for daily surgical procedures.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Inspects, assembles, packages, and sterilizes medical devices following manufacturer’s recommendations / IFU, policy, and procedure.
  • Maintains a strong working / collaborative relationship for continuous workflow between the OR and Central Service Sterile processing to provide sterile products.
  • Operates and maintains Steris Reliance machines and steam Autoclaves, keeping records of loads completed, items of loads, and maintenance procedures performed.
  • Operates and maintains decontamination equipment; performs daily cleaning and validations of washer-disinfector cleaner.
  • Monitors and maintains records to remain compliant with applicable regulatory agencies. Along with a state of “continuous hospital readiness” for accreditation, ensuring all relevant standards and guidelines are implemented and maintained.
  • Reports defective equipment to the department leader.
  • Maintains IFU records and demonstrates knowledge of accessing OneSource computer reference for updates on IFUs.

Extra Duties / Responsibilities for Lead Sterile Processing Technician :

  • Assists with establishing and overseeing the coordination of the turnovers required for surgical cases.
  • Assists with employee training on instrument processing.
  • Inventories materials and supplies daily to ensure adequate quantities are available for operation.
  • Conducts daily spot checks as outlined by the Manager.
  • Education :

    Associate Degree in Healthcare or related field preferred.

    Experience :

    Two years’ experience in healthcare setting preferred.

    Licensure / Certification :

    Certified Registered Central Services Technician (CRCST) or Certified Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) within two years of hire required.
