Responsibilities
- Deliver in-person and remote consecutive and simultaneous interpretation and sight translation at court proceedings and for other court-related programs in a manner consistent with the Code of Professional Responsibilities for Court Interpreters.
- Translate material at the direction of the Coordinator which may include, but is not limited to, court forms, website material, courthouse signage and scripts for telephone greetings and / or recorded instructions.
- Communicate clearly, effectively, and respectfully in all modes of communication with a diverse mix of people, including judges, court staff, attorneys, and members of the public.
- Perform other language access duties as needed or assigned, such as providing general court information at an information counter to the non-English speaking public or assist with the Limited Legal Assistance program.
- Use, maintain, safeguard and inventory equipment used by interpreters such as but not limited to simultaneous interpretation equipment and tools used for video remote and telephonic interpretation.
- Assist the Coordinator during meetings, presentations, trainings, and any other administrative duties that may be assigned by the Coordinator. This may include proctoring interpreter exams and serving as a mentor.
- Be a team player and able to maintain good working relationships with a diverse group of people. This includes communicating effectively with interpreters to plan coverage.
- Have good organizational and time management skills. This includes the ability to review a docket calendar, receive lists of assignments from court staff / Coordinator, and accurately complete daily activity schedules, logs, or other documentation as required.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must be punctual and reliable.
- Must be able to quickly move from one internal location to another and stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Conditions of Hire : A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. Direct deposit of paychecks is required as a condition of hire.
Qualifications
This position is seeking to hire one full-time English-Spanish Court Interpreter to deliver in-person, on-site linguistic services in primarily high-volume calendars in the Leonard Williams Justice Center located in Wilmington, New Castle County.Must be able to travel statewide and interpret in other courts and counties as needed.Must be able to translate at the direction of the Coordinator material such as court forms, website material, courthouse signage and scripts for telephone greetings and / or recorded instructions.Must be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and respectfully with judges, court staff, attorneys, and members of the public.Must be able to use, maintain, safeguard and inventory equipment used by interpreters.J-18808-Ljbffr
