DESCRIPTION

Reports to the Hillcrest Perioperative Nursing Director and maintains 24-hour accountability in planning, managing, controlling, and organizing comprehensive, safe, efficient, and high quality patient care. Assists in the administration of the budgetary functions. The Hillcrest (HC) Pre- and Post-Op Care Unit (PACU) Nurse Manager is responsible for coordinating the daily operations and clinical practice of the assigned service areas. Establishes and maintains standards of care and unit policies and procedures. Consistently demonstrates behaviors that model UCSD Health's core values and mission statement. Adheres to the ANA Nurse Administration Scope & Standards of Practice.

This position monitors daily operations and overall function of the Hillcrest Pre-Op and PACU Department. Oversees staff while maintaining budget and all Nurse Manager functions according to the job description. This position will work closely with leadership and team members from the Hillcrest Operating Room Department, which contains 11 ORs. The Nurse Manager will also help oversee the Pre-Op / PACU services supporting future outpatient OR services.

The Nurse Manager is involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and / or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). Promotes environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, patient experience and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care.

Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others. Manages nursing and administrative operations in specific patient care areas. Implements changes to patient workflows and operational processes. Maintains 24-hour line management responsibility for the administration of fiscal, material and human resources. Other duties as assigned. Direct reports are typically supervisor level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of California.

BLS and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six months of hire date.

Seven (7+) or more years of relevant experience, including at least five (5) years of recent PACU, ICU, or ED RN experience in an acute care hospital.

Three (3) or more years of experience in a supervisory or management role as a Registered Nurse. Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.

Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess moderately-complex problems to develop potential solutions.

Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.

Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.

Proven knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree in Nursing or relevant area.

Relevant specialty certification (e.g. CAPA, CPAN, CCRN).

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $149,700 - $297,700 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $71.70 - $142.58
