Overview

The Research Department at Alnylam is seeking a passionate and motivated Senior Associate Scientist to join our dynamic, fast-paced and interdisciplinary in vivo Pharmacology team within the RNAi Discovery Platform group.

The successful candidate will have a background in animal research and biological sciences and bring a robust

technical in vivo and ex vivo skillset. The role will require strong interpersonal and organizational skills, the capacity to multi-task, and the ability to learn, master, and share new techniques. We particularly seek someone who is detail-oriented and who will flourish in a goal-driven team environment under tight deadlines. This individual will join a dynamic and highly collaborative team. Experience and passion for working with animals is a must.

This position is onsite and is located in Cambridge, MA.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design of and independently execute in vivo studies to evaluate and characterize molecules for RNAi therapeutic delivery to a diverse array of tissues in a variety of animal models.
  • Conduct in vivo procedures in mice and rats, including therapeutic administration using established methodologies and tissue collections.
  • Conduct routine assays such as qPCR, western blot, ELISA to support in vivo studies, and begin to develop and troubleshoot novel assays.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Responsible for high quality data entry and data analysis in a timely manner and prepare clearly articulated experimental reports and presentations.
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Effectively and pro-actively multi-task and operate in a team-based environment.
  • Communicate openly and directly within and across teams and management and demonstrate the ability to effectively manage conflict.

Qualifications

  • BS / MS in Biology, Animal / Veterinary Sciences, Cell / Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with 3-5 years of laboratory experience in an industrial or academic setting working with animals.
  • Basic rodent in vivo skills (animal handling, subcutaneous / intravenous dosing, blood collection, and necropsy / tissue dissection expertise).
  • Experience in specialized in vivo techniques such as direct tissue injections or collections (IT, ICV, ICM, IVT, IA, OP, PO etc.) is a plus.
  • Excellent lab techniques and the ability to work independently are a prerequisite, experience in molecular biology techniques including RNA / DNA / protein extraction, qPCR, Western blot, ELISA a plus.
  • Demonstrate keen knowledge of experimental design, underlying scientific principles, and the ability to rigorously and independently analyze results, propose future directions, and generate clear reports.
  • Must be flexible, open to new tasks and challenges and able to work on tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to function at a high capacity within a fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, eagerness to learn, and the ability to follow written and verbal instruction.
  • Working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office applications including Excel, GraphPAD, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Good documentation and record-keeping in compliance with ELN (Electronic Lab Notebook) guidelines required.
  • U.S. Pay Range

    $76,300.00 - $114,500.00

    The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
