Department Overview

The position will reside within the PG&E's System Planning department. System Planning is part of PG&E's Engineering, Planning and Strategy organization. The vision for System Planning is to lead the way in inventing California's new clean-energy future. The work is informed by analytics using an integrated planning approach, considering California's and PG&E's electric system, gas system, advanced load management and bulk resources. System Planning provides support for PG&E's commercial and regulatory activities and important linkages to PG&E's policy, strategy, investment, and finance plans.

Position Summary

The Senior Clean Energy Strategic Analyst will support PG&E's long-term integrated planning efforts to advance PG&E environmental goals.

The position will reside within the System Planning Analytics team (SPA). The SPA team supports various aspects of long-term planning for supply-side and demand resources to inform PG&E's electric and natural gas strategy and integrated resource plans. The long-term planning efforts includes integration of existing technologies (e.g., solar and storage), emerging technologies (e.g., H2 and carbon capture) and demand-side and load management solutions to meet the future energy needs of PG&E's customers reliably, at a reasonable cost, and consistent with company and regulatory / legislative environmental policies.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The work location is Oakland, CA.

Salary Range

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

A reasonable salary range is : Bay Area Minimum : $102,000.00, Bay Area Maximum : $162,000.00

Responsibilities

  • Resource Planning Modelling and Analysis : Supports System Planning's analytical efforts to identify innovative solutions for an evolving electric grid composed of large amounts of renewables, energy storage, emerging technology (e.g., carbon capture and storage (CCS), Direct Air Capture (DAC)), and increasingly distributed.
  • Integrated Energy System Planning : Co-ordinates with electric and gas planning organizations to advance integrated transmission / distribution / demand-side planning for a carbon neutral future.
  • Regulatory Filings : Informed by System Planning's analytics, supports PG&E's regulatory filings (e.g., CPUC Integrated Resource Planning and Joint-IOU California Gas Report), and participation in various CPUC and CAISO planning proceedings.
  • Communication : Provides support for internal and external communications.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Physics, Econometrics or Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Sciences, Statistics, Business or equivalent field.
  • 4 years of relevant work experience OR 3 years of relevant work experience and a Master's degree OR 1 year of relevant work experience and a Doctorate degree.
  • Desired Qualifications :

  • Basic knowledge of California or similar energy markets and environmental policy goals
  • Master's degree in a technical field
  • Knowledge and expertise in utility industry in the areas of resource planning, transmission planning, CAISO (or similar) market.
  • Experience with capacity expansion and production cost simulation models, especially pertaining to electric markets (e.g., Plexos, SERVM, Gridview, etc.)
  • Experience with state and / or regional, federal energy regulatory proceedings and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a conceptual issue and independently design and complete innovative analysis to draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and ability to concisely convey information based on unique audience needs.
  • Strong capability in building internal and external relationships and identifying customer concerns.
  • Strong capability in planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals.
