  • Must be currently enrolled / attending an accredited post-secondary institution studying Chemistry, Microbiology, or a closely-related field.

Part-time : Shifts include the following :

  • Candidates must maintain availability to work 15 hours per week.
  • Candidates must be available to work 4 hour shifts.
  • Availability for morning shifts starting at 7 : 00am is .

    • Position Definition :

  • The position will perform important tasks related to : basic standardized water quality testing and calculations; laboratory quality assurance and quality control; basic laboratory safety and housekeeping protocols.

    • Essential Functions :

  • The essential functions of the classification may include, but are not limited to, the functions below and are subject to changes in operational necessity.
  • Assisting laboratory technicians with physical, chemical and microbiological analysis of water.
  • Collecting and preserving plant samples; preparing chemical solutions, reagents and bacteriological media.
  • Performing laboratory housekeeping.
  • Entering data into word processing and spreadsheet documents.
  • Maintaining logs, filing and organizing.
  • Being detail oriented.
  • Communicating effectively with staff, vendors and public.

    • Minimum Qualifications :

  • Possess a High School Diploma or certified equivalent (GED).
  • Be currently enrolled / attending an accredited post-secondary institution studying Chemistry, Microbiology, or a closely-related field.
  • Be available to work 15-20 hours per week during the year for the duration of the .
  • Possess a valid California Class "C" driver's license.

    • Ability to :

  • Deal well with an odorous environment and handling malodorous samples.
  • Remain standing for extended periods of time.
  • Perform basic math calculations.
  • Use modern computer software applications.
  • Work weekends and holidays.
  • Lift and carry sampling equipment safely.
  • Perform repetitive motions for an extended period of time.

    • Conditions of Work :

  • During the course of performing the functions of this position, the employee may encounter the following conditions :
  • Working indoors and / or outdoors, temperature changes, dust, fumes / smoke / gases, chemicals, noise, computer monitor use, blood borne pathogens, solvents, odors or noxious fumes, working alone or with other individuals.

    • The hiring range for this position is $20 to $22 per hour. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity, and may also vary depending on candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience amongst other factors.
