Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Sports & Recreation Manager, coaches will work with youth of various ages. Coaches must have the ability and desire to work with children, parents, volunteers, and peers. Coaches will supervise and assist in activities for all Sports & Recreation sessions, ensuring the safety and well-being of players in their care.
Essential Functions
Know, explain and exemplify the mission, purpose, and values of the Kroc Center and The Salvation Army (TSA).Provide building blocks for healthy development for youth through the infusion of the 40 Developmental Assets into programming and daily interactions.Assist in leading all sports and recreation activities with enthusiasm according to training protocols established.Adhere to and implement discipline procedures created for players.Keep player issues confidential and do not share them with others.Adhere to dress code at all times.Return program equipment to the appropriate designated area upon completion of activity unless otherwise arranged.Facilitate player check-in and check-out procedures according to protocol.Communicate respectfully with peers, supervisors, and customers of various socio-economic backgrounds, handling disputes professionally.Ensure the safe use of the facility and execution of activities through enforcement of facility and activity-specific regulations.Maintain a safe working environment; report any facility defects / problems and suspicious activities to the Sports & Recreation Director.Assist in emergencies or treatment of injured participants and complete appropriate paperwork as directed.Perform regular head counts and keep an accurate attendance list of assigned players. Plan activities, lesson plans, and supervision of activity stations with the help of other coaches as needed.Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.Recognize the spiritual needs of individuals and refer them to the officer / pastor as needed.Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.Perform all other duties as assigned.Working Conditions
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax, and telephone.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English; bilingual English / Spanish is preferred.Must be at least 16 years of age.Must have the ability to work and relate well with people.Must attend staff, child safety, and other trainings as directed.Must have a philosophy of education, child, and player development consistent with that of The Salvation Army Kroc Center.Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
