The Senior Engineer’s purpose is to solve technical problems, develop applicable documentation, and supervise all assigned resources to support the assigned project. The Senior Engineer assists the engineering organization in determining the technical requirements of the project, defining resource requirements to achieve schedule and budget commitments, and solving technical issues as they arise within the field of competence.
- Work independently in solving technical issues
- Plan, estimate, schedule and monitor assigned work and the work of assigned resources
- Able to track progress, report progress, recommend improvements to budget and schedule, and recommend reductions to budget and schedule
- Capable to facilitate communications of issues and solutions throughout FMM, subcontract, or customers. Capable to mentor team members in effective communication techniques.
- Capable to prepare, check and issue professional quality deliverables, mentor team members on improving performance deliverables, and mentor subcontract on improving performance of deliverables
- Capable of interpreting contract requirements, applying to functional assignments, and able to mentor team members and subcontract in their understanding
- Skilled to identify and develop contract change documents to support the project needs. Capable to mentor fellow team members and subcontractors.
- Abide by and enforce all organizational policies and procedures. Mentor fellow team members and subcontractors in development, explanation, and guidance of policies and procedures.
- Capable to lead or participate in product improvement projects and working groups
- Proficient to define, track, monitor, and provide direction for subcontract activities.
- Able to define, track and control subcontractor activities
- Effectively supervise and mentor assigned resources during onboarding, skill development, or projects.

Education / Certification Requirements :
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 6 years of experience of increasing responsibility in theBachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 6 years of experience of increasing responsibility in the engineering field of competence.This requirement can also be met with an Associate’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 8 years of experience of increasing responsibility in the engineering field of competence, or a High School Diploma or GED and 9 years of experience of increasing responsibility in the engineering field of competence.Supervisory experience desired.Six Sigma or LEAN training desired.Requirements :
Must have experience with naval systems, proven by verifiable and specific work experience, technical publication, or patent issue.Must have a working knowledge of standard shipbuilding rules and regulations, as well as the associated regulatory agencies and the review & approval process.Must have current computer skills relevant to the field of competence.Be familiar with EPLA or ETAPStrong Microsoft Office Suites computer skillsStrong 3D AutoCAD Modeling and processing skills comprised of the following :Multiple layout drawings100+ tab drawingsViewport manipulationLayer management3-D clippingSolids creation / manipulationBlocksMust have ability to work within schedule and budget restraints.Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor.Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.Must have ability to maintain confidentiality.A basic Earned Value Management System competency is a bonusProcess Improvement Specialist knowledge and experience beneficial.Experience leading individuals and teams beneficialTMMG is seeking a full-time Shipyard HVAC Engineer to create the Detail Design documentation using the functional design documentation previously developed for the various HVAC systems for the ship design project to which they are assigned. In fulfilling this function they are to develop ship production related deliverables (i.e. production drawings and manufacturing workpacks) and exhibit the capability to assist Manufacturing in the resolution of production related issues. They are to assist the Lead HVAC Engineer in developing a cost effective Detail Design.
Shipyard HVAC Engineer - Responsibilities
1) Resource Management as related to the project he / she has been assigned to.
Complete delivery quality documentation (and tasks) on time and budget to shipyard and Project Customers. This involves a natural evolution of the design process where the Designer must be able to evaluate the Functional Design Documentation and transform it2) Production Drawings and workpacks.
Develop HVAC systems routing in 3D modelComplete interference checking and assist in resolving conflicts with all engineering disciplinesDrawings (Arrangement and Detail Drawings, hotwork drawings)Assess raw material needs and purchase as requiredHVAC System Work PacksAssist HVAC Engineers in HVAC component selections (in accordance with contract requirements)Interface with Mfg personnel and resolve production issuesDevelop Change Paper as required to support the processDevelop Purchase SpecificationsDevelop Test Procedures3) Assist in the development of the project HVAC Engineering Team (as requested by the Lead HVAC Engineer)
Participate in kickoff meeting to review project objectives and review project requirementsParticipate in Specification reviewParticipate in regular project staff meetingsReview applicable QMS procedures with project team on a regular basis.4) Assist the Lead HVAC Engineer in developing (primarily reviewing) a Project based documentation development schedules. Provide input as requested.

Ability to utilize shipyard's primary System Design Tools (AutoCAD 2D / 3D, NAVISWorks, Ship Constructor HVAC Design Module).Ability can be attained by completion of courses equivalent to an Associate degree from an accredited junior or technical college with an emphasis in mechanical design or drafting,Can also be met through application of High School education skills plus 6 years of ex perience in drafting / designing.Minimum of 2 years of Marine HVAC design experience.Ability to use certain software packages associated with the Microsoft Office Suite is required as well (Word and Excel).Ability to interpret customer specifications as related to HVAC System requirements into Detail Design Documentation required to cost effectively design the perspective vessel is the prime qualification of a Designer.Years of experience in ship design must include a familiarity with Regulatory Body Requirements associated with the Ship Building industry (i.e. ABS, 46 CFR, SOLAS and The US Coast Guard)Must meet DOT drug screening requirementsFamiliar with the development of work items, drawings, analysis, cost estimates, and technical reports for ship repair or related projectsCompany Background Investigation upon hireCOVID vaccination dependent on customer's requirementsSecret security clearance not required (desired but not required)Climb tall ladders, crawl tanks / bilges in confined spaces, inspect from aerial lifts, and work in adverse environments for long periods. Participate in regular interface meetings with the Lead HVAC Engineer (and associated staff members) to assure effective information flow from the Project Engineer is maintained.Attend “as required” meetings to participate in resolution of issues as related to the project to which they have been assigned.Externally
“As required” meetings with potential outside providers of products and services designed to meet project contract requirements (i.e. equipment suppliers) are established and supported.“As required” meeting with Project customers to resolve issues ranging from functional design technical compliance to HVAC system construction and testing clarifications.
