Outside Sales
Job Summary
The Outside Salesperson performs all aspects of sales in his or her assigned territory to include cold calling, quoting, customer service, and closing.
Job Functions
- Sells company products and services by cold calling, servicing existing client accounts, and networking in our industry
- Performs professional presentations or demonstrations of company product(s) / service(s) while on site
- Penetrates all targeted accounts and radiates sales from within the client base
- Emphasizes product / service features and benefits, quotes prices, discusses credit terms, and prepares necessary sales reports
- Generates and develops new customer accounts to increase revenue, by cold calling if necessary
- Always maintains professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to portray the company in a positive manner
- Actively manages call schedule to adequately cover assigned territory in a time-efficient manner
- Uses marketing data using applicable sales management software tools to maximize sales efficiency and effectiveness
- Achieves opportunity-based sales quotas
- Reaches business targets through effective management of designated territories and physical visits to customer sites
- Develops new customer accounts to increase revenue
- Builds and fosters a network of referrals to create new opportunities for revenue growth
- Develops ongoing, profitable relationships with customers
- Continually maintains a professional company image
- Builds and maintains ongoing awareness of new products and services, competitor activities, and other research
- Overcomes objections of prospective customers
- Ensures follow-up by passing leads on to Inside Sales persons with calls-to-action, dates, complete profile information, sources, and so on
- Attends periodic classes, training, and workshops to enhance sales abilities
- Continuously works to learn all product lines proficiently offered by the company
- Takes an active part of company trade shows and seminars
- Maintains accurate records, including sales call reports, expense reimbursement forms, and other necessary documentation
- Takes proper care of his or her vehicle to ensure reliability and project a professional image
Requirements / Experience
College degree in Marketing or an acceptable combination of education and experience3+ years of direct work experience in an external sales capacityProfessional demeanor, selling style, and appearanceSolid experience in opportunity qualification, pre-visit planning, call control, account development, and time and territory managementDemonstrated ability to convert prospects and close deals while maintaining established sales quotasOperating standard office equipment, including MS Office applications, copy machine, fax machine, and scannerOil & Gas industry knowledge strongly preferredExcellent oral and verbal communication skillsIn-person presentational skillsPlanning and managing projectsExcellent customer serviceMeeting deadlines and schedule restraintsAbility to travel with occasional overnight staysDealing with frequent interruptions and changing prioritiesDeveloping effective working relationships with peers so as to work as a teamOther Information
The Outside Salesperson may be located at each branch and reports to the General Manager. Hours are flexible and variable and are generally based around 8 AM to 5 PM, with OT and overnight travel as needed. Physical demands are minimal to moderate and typically require the following : 50% sitting, 25% walking and 25% standing. Lifting of demos, supplies and material, as well as carrying, pushing and / or pulling, may be required.
Frequent travel is required.

Training
Outside Sales training is to be carried out at any branch location necessary. The General Manager is responsible for the Outside Salesperson's training. Outside Sales training will be carried out by the General Manager, with the assistance of an incumbent Outside Salesperson, and Inside Sales staff, as appropriate.
The following tasks shall be initially trained on the Outside Sales function :
Selling company products and servicesPerforming presentations and / or demonstrations of company product(s) / service(s) while on siteGenerating, developing, and keeping new customer accountsProducts and services intelligenceWorking with Inside Sales personsMaintaining accurate records, including sales call reportsMaintaining the company vehicle and reporting required information on co vehicleThe Outside Salesperson shall be trained on the following software, as needed :
