Job Overview
Responsible for handling fundamental and core aspects of clients' financial recordkeeping and may assist the financial control team in financial service delivery by taking on advanced tasks provided by the Accounting Manager. The Senior Accountant may be assigned to help manage a team, performing process compliance reviews and systematic and scheduled checks of the accuracy of work being done by other team members, i.e., Junior and Intermediate Accountants.
Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Receipting
- Record customer payments
- Prepare aged Receivables on demand for clients
Supplier Payments and Expenses
Collect supplier invoices into weekly / fortnightly / monthly payment runs, streamlining payment processes wherever possibleEnsure all supplier bills are appropriately authorised for payment, and process payments when authorisedRecord supplier payments and office expenses in accounting software, coding to the appropriate accountsReconciliations of Bank Accounts
Reconcile all bank accounts on a weekly basisReconcile all bank accounts to the last day of the month each monthReconcile all loan accounts on at least a quarterly basisProcessing of Payroll
Maintain confidential records for all employeesProcess employee pays, prepare ABA files for clients to process within internet bankingDistribute pay advice to employees via email, ensuring all email addresses are correctTrack employees' leave accrualsReconcile monthly / quarterly PAYGReconcile and make quarterly superannuation paymentsReconcile and prepare payment summaries at the end of the yearProcess end-of-year payroll and lodge with the Australian Taxation OfficeIndividual Tax Returns
Review, collate and summarise client dataPrepare detailed Income Tax Return workpapers to assist in ATO compliance and the manager review processIdentify missing information required from the client to complete returnPreparation of Annual Individual Income Tax Returns for review by the ManagerFinancial Statements & Company / Trust Tax Returns
Review, collate and summarise client dataIdentify missing information required from the client to complete financial and tax returnsPrepare detailed workpapers to assist in ATO compliance and the manager review process, including but not limited to :Bank ReconciliationsFixed Assets ReconciliationsHire Purchase (Asset Finance) ReconciliationLoan ReconciliationsGST and Other Taxes ReconciliationPayroll ReconciliationMake any adjusting journals required to finalise year end (Trust Distributions, Deferred Revenue, Provisions for Employee Leave Entitlements, Interest in Hire Purchases, etc.)Preparation of Financial Statements with Tax Reconciliation and relevant Tax Return(s)Ad hoc Tasks
Any task deemed necessary by the Account Manager or Service Delivery Manager involving client managementQualifications
Education
Graduate of Finance, Accounting, or business-related degreesCPA is preferred but is not requiredProduct Knowledge
At least 5 years of AU Accounting experienceAt least 1 year of AU Tax Accounting experienceSystem and Application Knowledge
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPointKnowledge and familiarity with accounting tools such as Xero, MYOB and Pronto are preferredHas the ability and willingness to learn new systems and tools, as neededQuality
