JOB DESCRIPTION

The El Camino Community College District invites applications for anticipated part-time faculty positions for the 2026 spring semester :

Survey of Islamic Art - The survey of Islamic Art explores the artistic and architectural traditions of the Islamic world from the 7th century to the present. The course emphasizes regional diversity, cultural exchange, and the interrelation between art, belief, and society. Special attention is given to contemporary Islamic and diasporic art, including current artists, exhibitions, and theoretical debates shaping the global art discourse.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Faculty job responsibilities include the assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services.

Faculty assignments may include morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours. Dual enrollment, distance education, on-line or hybrid with required distance education certification assignments are voluntary. For faculty who are interested in teaching online or hybrid courses, completion of El Camino College's distance education certification process is required or submission of a waiver with evidence of prior certification to develop and teach quality online courses.

Faculty may participate in initiatives set forth by the College that support students to achieve their educational goals through collaborations with employers, advisory committees, industry / trade groups, universities, high schools, or other partnerships with related instructional disciplines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's in art history, history of art and architecture, or visual culture / visual studies; OR

Bachelor's in art history AND Master's in history ; OR

Master's in art with a recorded emphasis or concentration in art history OR

The equivalent (Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above, must explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above); OR

Valid California Community college instructor credential in appropriate subject. (per California Education Code 87355 issued prior to July 1, 1990); AND

Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate-level coursework or research focused on Islamic Art and Architecture.

Knowledge of contemporary Islamic and Middle Eastern art and current critical approaches in global art history.

Experience and proficiency in online and hybrid teaching, including the use of learning management systems and digital teaching tools.

Demonstrated ability to create inclusive, student-centered learning environments.

College-level teaching experience, particularly in survey or global art history courses.

Strong organizational, communication, and technological skills.

SALARY :

Part-time faculty are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The beginning rate is $113.77 - $137.08 (lecture), $86.23-$103.87 (lab), per hour depending on education and experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a part-time, temporary position for the 2026 spring semester, beginning February 17, 2026. Assignments may include off-site locations.
