Advanced Practice Provider - GI Medical Oncology

Opportunity to join one of the world's most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. The Gastrointestinal (GI) Medical Oncology department is a team of medical oncologists, scientists, physician assistants, and research nurses who treat gastrointestinal malignancies, including cancers of the liver, bile duct, gallbladder, pancreas, large and small bowel, stomach, esophagus and rare tumors. Department faculty members are focusing on the investigation of new molecular therapies and other novel agents that may provide better ways to treat cancers and related diseases of the digestive system. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider. Prior GI experience or internal medicine / transplant experience preferred. The hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm. KEY FUNCTIONS

• Patient Care Medical / Clinical Knowledge Demonstrate knowledge that includes an understanding of pathophysiology, patient presentation, differential diagnosis, patient management, surgical principles, health promotion, and disease prevention. Demonstrate core knowledge about established and evolving biomedical and clinical sciences and the application of this knowledge to patient care in their area. Demonstrate an investigatory and analytic thinking approach to clinical situations. this includes management of general medical and surgical conditions to include understanding, indication, contraindication, side effects, interactions and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other relevant treatment modalities. Demonstrate care that is effective, patient-centered, timely, and efficient for the treatment of health problems and the promotion of wellness. Counsel and educate patients and their families about disease and illness in addition to providing health care services and education aimed at preventing health problems or maintaining health. Participate in processes to assess, evaluate, maintain and improve their patient care practices. Demonstrate knowledge of scientific studies related to their patient's health problems. • EDUCATION Required : Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1 / 1 / 2003. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. EXPERIENCE Preferred : At least 1 year of experience in Advanced Practice Provider role. Prior GI experience or internal medicine / transplant experience. LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION Required : All of the following : Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or ACNP or ACNPC or ACAGNP or AGACNP or ACNPC-AG or AGACNP or AGNP or ACPNP or ANP or AGNP or AGPCNP or FNP or GNP or PNP or PMHNP or WHNP or APNP). Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Basic Life Support (BLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) If working in the following departments : Pediatric - Patient Care (113100). • EDUCATION Required : Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013. EXPERIENCE Preferred : At least 1 year of experience in Advanced Practice Provider role. Prior GI experience or internal medicine / transplant experience. LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION Required : All of the following : PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners. MAY BE REQUIRED : Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) , ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department : Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).
