Reit Tax Manager

Location : Detroit, MI (Hybrid Work Environment)

Robert Half's client, a globally recognized publicly traded services leader, is seeking a Reit Tax Manager to join their dynamic global tax team. This high-visibility position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact by shaping tax policy, ensuring compliance with complex Reit requirements, and supporting strategic growth initiatives across the organization.

About the Role

As a Reit Tax Manager, you will play a key role in guiding global Reit tax policy and compliance strategies for a fast-growing public company. This role is responsible for managing external providers on Reit matters, overseeing tax compliance and reporting, and advising senior tax leadership on evolving regulations and best practices. You will also contribute to M&A activity, transfer pricing oversight, and international tax matters, ensuring that the company remains ahead of industry standards and fully compliant with Reit regulations. Your responsibilities will include establishing and maintaining rigorous processes to support Reit compliance such as :

  • Income and asset testing, distribution tests, and annual E&P and return of capital calculations.
  • Reit acquisition due diligence, integration, and transaction structuring.
  • Monitoring compliance with Private Letter Rulings and related Reit regulations.
  • Identifying and mitigating risks tied to prohibited transactions, excise taxes, impermissible tenant services, and related party rents.

Requirements

This role offers broad exposure to senior leadership and cross-functional partners, providing the chance to drive meaningful outcomes in a company recognized for innovation and scale.

Qualifications Required

  • 4+ years of tax experience with a focus on Reit and partnership taxation.
  • Background in public accounting and / or in-house tax at a global corporation.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. tax law as it relates to Reit compliance, with hands-on modeling for income and asset testing.
  • Strong understanding of acquisition due diligence and ability to structure "Reit-ready" deals.
  • Familiarity with transfer pricing principles, entity accounting, and consolidation concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, collaborate, and build partnerships across departments and with external advisors.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to simplify complex tax issues for non-tax leaders.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 12 times annually.
  • Preferred

  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master's in Taxation).
  • Experience with green energy tax incentives.
  • Proven success working within international tax landscapes.
