Apprentice Facility Maintenance / Repair Technician I
The Apprentice Facility Maintenance / Repair Technician I performs basic and routine facilities maintenance, construction, and repair tasks according to service, quality, and safety standards. Following standard operating procedures, the Maintenance / Repair Technician I installs, inspects, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on mechanical, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, and Low-Voltage Electronics Systems. This position assists with various facility projects, including painting, drywall installation, carpentry, fixture installation, and relocating furniture or materials within the facility. Additionally, this position works with or assists trade contractors to complete projects or complex repairs.
Performs general construction, installation, repair, and finishing of building components, including woodwork, drywall, doors, windows, flooring, tile, moldings, glass panes, suspended ceiling grids, and tiles. Builds, installs, or repairs partitions, cabinets, shelves, tables, bookcases, and other furnishings; hangs pictures, whiteboards, shelving, and similar items safely and securely. Assists with carpet cleaning, floor care, painting, sanding, staining, and general surface repairs. Assembles, moves, and relocates furniture; sets up and disassembles meeting rooms. Maintains clean and orderly workspaces, vehicles, and common areas; removes debris and disposes of trash from job sites. Assists licensed HVAC technicians with installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, including ductwork, refrigerant lines, and related components; learns to interpret drawings, schematics, and specifications; helps with testing and troubleshooting. Assists licensed electricians with installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, including wiring, conduit, outlets, lighting fixtures, and panels; pulls wire, runs conduit, mounts boxes, and helps with testing and troubleshooting under supervision. Assists licensed plumbers with installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems, fixtures, and piping; helps cut, assemble, and install pipes, fittings, and valves; learns to interpret plumbing schematics and assists with troubleshooting water supply and drainage issues. Obtains bids, coordinates with vendors and contractors, and assists with material procurement. Operates trucks and trailers to transport tools, equipment, and supplies to and from job sites. Performs occasional welding, cutting, and light metal fabrication. Works flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends, as required by Facilities Management. Maintains regular, punctual attendance and adheres to all safety policies and procedures. Regular and punctual attendance is required. Performs other related duties as required.
High School Diploma or GED and a minimum one year of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Mill work, carpentry, or fabrication experience preferred. EPA Certification and TDLR Registered HVAC Technician or Apprenticeship Card for plumbing or electrical within six (6) months of employment is required, depending on the area of assignment. Possession of a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment. Must be able to pass a State Criminal History background check.
