Description :

The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.

This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider’s orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting in examinations and treatment.

The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care and treatment of patients.

The RN performs all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of his / her education and licensure.

The RN applies appropriate nursing skills in the treatment of patients.

The RN attends sick call with the physician to see patients and prepares the room and equipment for examinations.

The RN operates medication administration, dispenses medication, and documents as required by applicable policies and procedures.

The RN calls Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders, and / or other emergencies.

The RN examines and assesses new patients with illnesses or injuries or patients who become ill or injured.

The RN refers patients to appropriate healthcare facilities as required by their condition.

The RN performs emergency procedures as needed and notifies Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders.

The RN assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel and addresses their needs.

The RN monitors inpatient hospitalizations for early releases whenever appropriate.

The RN provides guidance, supervision, and monitors nursing care provided by licensed vocational and non-licensed medical staff.

The RN maintains a good working relationship with facility staff and outside provider agencies.

The RN uses established corporate and facility policies and procedures in making decisions.

The RN regularly evaluates the provision of medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication.

The RN maintains absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.

The RN assists in reviewing medical files to ensure all services are documented.

The RN closely monitors all potential catastrophic illnesses.

The RN audits pharmacy use for adherence to formulary, as directed or required.

The RN complies with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.

The RN observes and records patient behavior.

The RN inspects the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband and securely stores or disposes of supplies and equipment.

The RN provides health counseling and education on an individual or group basis as required.

The RN assists in preparing and maintaining a variety of operational records, reports, and logs in a timely manner.

The RN reads, analyzes, comprehends, and interprets medical and technical procedures and regulations.

The RN reviews, processes, and responds to lawsuits, attending court hearings when necessary.

The RN evaluates and recommends physical safety requirements necessary for a safe working environment.

The RN facilitates, where applicable, accreditation of the medical program by providing appropriate medical services.

The RN prepares and disseminates safety and accident reports as required.

The RN takes appropriate action in serious incidents and emergencies.

The RN escorts or coordinates the movement of patients for medical treatment.

The RN performs searches of people and objects capable of concealing contraband.

The RN engages in functions in confined areas, physically checking doors and windows to ensure security.

The RN takes appropriate action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations.

The RN performs rescue functions at accidents and emergencies, including administering basic emergency medical aid.

The RN secures and evacuates people from confined areas when necessary.
