Job DescriptionOverview

The candidate will assist in coordinating all daily functions of the Clinical Laboratory and ensure high-quality patient care in compliance with CLIA and California Department of Health requirements. Responsibilities include but are not limited to receiving, processing, and accessioning biological specimens. Assigning computer-generated identification numbers, verifying accuracy, and recording all processed patient information. The candidate will also assist in operating laboratory instruments, performing preventative maintenance, running quality control specimens, and loading and unloading patient samples independently and under the supervision of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS). Additional duties include completing all required paperwork, performing both technical and non-technical procedures for specimen processing and submission, and handling the disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols. The candidate will also help maintain and organize laboratory supplies, monitor inventory levels, and order supplies as needed. The Laboratory Assistant reports directly to the Laboratory Manager.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Performs daily functions of Clinical Laboratory as receiving, processing and accessioning biological specimens.
  • Assist in analysis of laboratory specimens, demonstrating a moderate degree of proficiency and understanding in laboratory procedures and demonstrates competency to facilitate quality patient care and diagnosis.
  • Participate in solving technical problems requiring a great degree of independent judgment.
  • Performs specimen analysis under supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Performs daily department QC and preventative maintenance.
  • Maintains records of reports and department statistics for analyzers.
  • Maintains efficient flow of work throughout the practice by evaluating procedures and volume of work required at various periods of time throughout the day.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Demonstrates responsibility, accountability and professionalism in all areas of lab / clinic.
  • Responsible for inventory of supplies and equipment, restocking of supplies and reagents.
  • Maintain appropriate records of laboratory activities such as packing slips for lab supplies, quality control data, quality assurance and maintenance records.
  • Participate in educational workshops, meetings, and seminars.
  • Review and adhere to department policies or procedures to maintain proficiency in operating guidelines.
  • Assist co-workers in completion of daily tasks or special projects to support the department’s efficiency.
  • Seek guidance and direction, as necessary, for the successful completion of job duties; ask appropriate questions when in doubt.
  • Other duties may be assigned, as required.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • COMPANY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, physical, and a background check to include a 7-year criminal, 10-year SSN & employer history reference check.
  • Must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination on the first day of work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules.
  • Must take yearly flu shots or wear flu mask during flu season for patient-facing positions and test for tuberculosis as required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
