Position OverviewThe University of Kansas (KU) Libraries invites applications for a tenure-track librarian to join the faculty. The Graduate Engagement Librarian works as a member of the Center for Graduate Initiatives & Engagement and with colleagues in the Research Engagement Division to develop and implement a collaborative and programmatic approach to graduate outreach and research education across the University of Kansas. This position will also provide library outreach and support to the Edwards Campus in Overland Park, Kansas including remote graduate degree programs.
One of the three goals of KU Libraries 2024-2028 Strategic Plan is to forge partnerships and experiences that equip students as engaged, critical thinkers who thrive in the classroom and beyond. The Graduate Engagement Librarian advances this objective by providing high-quality, innovative research consultation and instruction, developing and sustaining engagement with graduate students, and pursuing opportunities to work with units and departments that are affiliated with graduate students. This position will make key contributions to Libraries efforts to design, support, and implement comprehensive information literacy instruction that is aligned with the institutions learning outcomes. This position will also lead efforts to provide support for Electronic Thesis & Dissertation (ETD) formatting and submissions, citation management, and other emerging research productivity tools including artificial intelligence.
The Graduate Engagement Librarian is a member of the Research & Learning department at KU Libraries and reports to The Head of the Center for Graduate Initiatives and Engagement. As a member of the Research & Learning department, this position contributes to student success initiatives and faculty engagement efforts. This position works closely with colleagues in the libraries Research Engagement Division and beyond to accomplish shared goals and strategically address the libraries priorities.
Any of the following related experience will improve the effectiveness of a successful candidate :
Experience supporting Electronic Thesis & Dissertation (ETD) formatting and submissions : experience using document preparation systems such as Overleaf or TeXPage for markup languages such as LaTeX.
Experience developing an extracurricular program of support for graduate student success.
Experience delivering information literacy instruction that supports student learning and success.
Familiarity with information and digital literacy frameworks such as the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education .
Experience designing and creating learning objects for instruction and consultation.
Experience providing hands-on and asynchronous support for research productivity tools.
Experience using assessment techniques to evaluate the effectiveness of student learning interventions.
The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date of the appointment.
This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position. Rank considerations are based on professional performance, research, and service experience sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian.

Required Qualifications Required Qualifications for All Candidates
ALA-accredited masters degree in Library / Information Science or equivalent from a foreign institution by date of appointment OR a PhD in library and information science from an LIS program that also offered an ALA-accredited masters degree at the time the PhD was awarded
Appointment at the Associate Librarian rank requires a review of the candidates materials to ensure work at the level documented in KU Libraries Criteria for Academic Ranks of Library Faculty
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
