As the Director of Safety, you'll lead the cooperative's safety vision across all company divisions. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining safety programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture where safety is a shared value across the organization.
Safety Leadership & Culture :
Champion a safety-first mindset across all departments and job types.
Develop and execute a cooperative-wide safety strategy aligned with operational goals and cooperative principles.
Partner with senior leadership and advise the board on safety risks, compliance, and emerging trends.
Foster employee engagement and accountability in safety practices at every level.
Programs & Compliance :
Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs, policies, and emergency response plans.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, IDEM, DOT, NERC, and other state and federal regulations.
Conduct safety audits, onsite inspections, and risk assessments.
Partner with Legal / Compliance Manager in coordination with regulatory agencies and insurance providers as needed.
Collaborate with HR, Legal, and Risk Management on workers' compensation, reporting, and business continuity efforts.
Training & Development :
Design and deliver safety training for field crews, office staff, and leadership.
Facilitate emergency response drills and crisis management exercises.
Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses, ensuring timely corrective actions and accurate documentation.
Provide ongoing education for supervisors and managers on their safety responsibilities.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
8+ years of progressive safety leadership experience; utility or cooperative background strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, IDEM, DOT, NERC, and construction safety standards.
Certifications such as CSP, CUSP, or CIH preferred; OSHA Trainer and CPR / First Aid a plus.
