Job Description
In support of continually changing initiatives, the Process Technician is committed to developing innovative research processes and pursuing the highest quality research to realize the full promise of genomic medicine. Adjusts to new processes and technologies as required and contributes to the development of new processes and technologies. Adheres to quality standards through evaluation and troubleshooting at critical process points following our Quality Management System requirements; operates, maintains, and troubleshoots various analytical and process related instruments; analyzes and documents data; reviews and revises SOPs; generates and characterizes process related samples; prepares all necessary reagents; performs quality control procedures; participates in workflow operations related to research development projects; and provides assistance in key tasks related to optimizing research processes and increasing the efficiency of Genome Sequencing Platform. Serves as an information resource for team members and may give general guidance and training to other Platform staff.
This is a 6-month contract role with an opportunity to turn into a FT position depending on performance. You must be comfortable commuting to Burlington, MA 5-days a week.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
- Performs process steps, including both manual molecular biology bench processes and the use of automated laboratory equipment. Effectively multi-tasks, manages time and uses judgment and initiative to troubleshoot automation and reaction products as needed.
- Compiles, analyzes and records all throughput, workflow, and experimental results daily, weekly, and monthly as necessary. Prepares, presents, and communicates results effectively. Keeps detailed laboratory notebook, log books, and tracks all samples and updates results in database.
- Works independently to evaluate real-time data and adjusts processes as needed. Independently modifies priorities on the basis of a changing daily workflow. Reviews, revises and corrects SOPs as needed.
- Monitors supply chain needs, ensuring proper inventory levels, storage conditions, forecasting of critical processes, and tracking of failed reagent lots. Works closely with Supply Chain & Quality Management group to resolve issues.
- Tracks all QC measurements and identifies trends in data through the use of database queries and JMP statistical software.
- Participates in team process reviews, identifying key weaknesses and potential improvements requiring general knowledge of all process capabilities. Performs process audits and provides feedback to supervisor. May assist with in-process testing.
- Works with Environmental Health and Safety representative to enforce compliance with biosafety guidelines and regulations in processes
- Works and communicates effectively with team members to meet process development, pilot production, and process improvement goals. Performs multiple tasks to manage ongoing changes to team goals in a dynamic environment.
- Performs other responsibilities as necessitated by the position or as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
BS degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.Experience in a research laboratory and standard lab equipment required; experience with automation preferred.Ability to identify, analyze and resolve issues in collaboration with all levels of staff in a variety of disciplines required.Working knowledge of computers, databases, and working in a Windows / Mac environment required.Must have strong attention to detail, the ability and multi-task and strong organizational skills.Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work as part of a team required.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Must be flexible and willing to work across multiple projects and technology platforms in a fast-paced, rapidly changing scientific environment.
