Job Description
Purchasing Manager
Location : Fort Worth, TX
Salary : $100,000 - $120,000
Reports To : Executive Leadership
Position Overview
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading and executing all procurement activities related to raw materials, fabricated components, and structural assemblies that support complex manufacturing operations. This position is ideal for a procurement professional with direct experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, developing accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), and translating those details into timely, cost-effective purchase orders. Reporting directly to executive leadership, this role partners closely with Engineering, Production, Warehouse, and Project Management teams to ensure material availability, cost efficiency, and alignment with production schedules. It is a highly hands-on and detail-oriented position that blends technical interpretation with strategic sourcing—without direct personnel management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Drawing & BOM Management
- Review and interpret structural and fabrication drawings, ensuring all required materials, dimensions, and specifications are captured accurately.
- Develop, validate, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for new and existing projects.
- Identify material types, quantities, finishes, and fabrication details directly from drawings and project documentation.
- Procurement Execution
- Convert BOMs into purchase orders, ensuring accuracy in part numbers, specifications, lead times, and quantities.
- Manage procurement projects and sourcing strategies for steel, aluminum, fabricated parts, fasteners, and structural subassemblies.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Production to address material substitutions, specification clarifications, and technical procurement issues.
- Supplier & Cost Management
- Evaluate and onboard suppliers capable of meeting complex structural requirements.
- Monitor supplier performance to ensure on-time delivery, specification adherence, and documentation accuracy.
- Support cost-reduction efforts by analyzing BOMs for alternate sourcing opportunities, bulk buy advantages, or material consolidations.
- ERP / MRP & Data Utilization
- Use ERP / MRP systems to manage inventory levels, reorder points, lead times, and purchasing quantities.
- Track and improve key procurement KPIs such as purchase order accuracy, cycle time, cost savings, and on-time delivery rates.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering to ensure technical requirements are met at the procurement stage.
- Align purchasing priorities with Production schedules and project milestones to avoid material shortages or bottlenecks.
- Coordinate with Warehouse and Project Management for material staging, delivery scheduling, and logistics.
