Job Summary :_At Embrace Learning Institute, the role of Special Education Teacher goes beyond classroom support, this position is central to leading instructional planning, delivering individualized education, and supporting students with behavioral and cognitive differences. In addition to teaching and direct support, the Special Education Teacher provides leadership to the Lead Behavioral & Educational Support Specialists (Lead BESS) and serves as a key partner to the school’s administrative team. This position helps ensure that all students receive consistent, compassionate, and high-quality educational and behavioral support._
- Supervisory Responsibilities :
- _Guides and supports daily activities of assigned Lead BESS staff_
- _Conducts informal check-ins and collaborates on performance feedback_
- _Oversees the completion and accuracy of student data entry and documentation_
- _Assists with onboarding, training, and coaching of support staff_
- _Serves as the primary point of contact between the Lead BESS team and site administrators_
- Duties / Responsibilities :
- _Design and implement individualized curriculum and behavior strategies based on IEPs and student needs_
- _Deliver academic instruction and modify lesson plans to support varied learning styles and abilities_
- _Create a safe, inclusive, and structured environment using trauma-informed and evidence-based methods_
- _Monitor and assess student progress; collect and review academic and behavioral data regularly_
- _Collaborate with families, service providers, and school staff to ensure coordinated care_
- _Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to IEPs, BIPs, and progress reporting_
- _Provide leadership to support staff in instructional consistency, crisis prevention, and classroom management_
- _Delegate classroom or site responsibilities to support team as needed (e.g., materials prep, classroom setup, cleaning)_
- _Administer medication or other student-specific supports if trained and authorized_
- _Act as a communication bridge between support staff and the administrative team_
- Required Skills / Abilities :
- _Strong leadership, mentoring, and collaboration skills_
- _Excellent verbal and written communication abilities_
- _Deep understanding of special education practices, IEP processes, and trauma-informed support_
- _Skilled in de-escalation, redirection, and adaptive instruction_
- _Ability to model professionalism, empathy, and instructional best practices_
- _Strong organizational skills and attention to detail_
- _Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.)_
- Education and Experience :
- _Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field required_
- _Valid Washington State General Education Teaching Certificate required_
- _Washington State Special Education Certification required_
- _Minimum of two years experience in special education or behavioral support settings required_
- _Previous leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience strongly preferred_
- Physical Requirements :
- _Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the school day_
- _Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds as needed_
- _Able to kneel, sit, crawl, push, pull, and support students with physical or emotional needs_
_Prolonged periods of computer work for documentation and planning_
