PCU RN Job Details – Roanoke, VA Location : Roanoke, VA 24014 (Virginia healthcare jobs) Unit : 20-bed telemetry Progressive Care Unit Assignment Length : Up to 52 weeks (flexible options : 14–52 weeks) Shift : Day shifts, 3x12-hour (06 : 45 AM – 07 : 15 PM) Hours per Week : 36 Start Date : Flexible (starting December 15, 2025) Weekend Coverage : Required (6 weekend shifts per 6-week block) Orientation : 32 hours Estimated Weekly Pay : $1800–$1840 Registered Nurse Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or compact state) Minimum 1 year of recent PCU or Stepdown RN experience Current ACLS and BLS certifications (American Heart Association) NIHSS certification preferred EPIC electronic charting experience required COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical / religious exemptions considered) Ability to float to other PCU or Medical-Surgical units as needed Must be able to work at least 1 holiday per 13-week assignment (2 holidays for winter assignments) Travel nursing candidates only – local applicants (within 100 miles) not accepted PCU RN Responsibilities Deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to adult and geriatric patients with pulmonary, renal, and complex medical conditions Monitor and manage telemetry, ventilated patients (up to 2 beds), and chronic tracheostomy patients Administer and titrate IV drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, etc.) Perform central and peripheral line care, blood product administration, and respond to rapid response / code team calls Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias, oxygen therapy (nasal cannula, CPAP, BiPAP), and maintain isolation precautions Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Social Services, etc.) Float to other units within your scope of practice as needed Participate in self-scheduling and maintain safe patient ratios (goal 4 : 1, current 5 : 1) Enjoy the vibrant lifestyle of Roanoke, VA while making a difference in patient care.
