Nursing Assistant Position
The Nursing Assistant (NA) position provides opportunities to develop basic nursing skills for care in a health care setting. Major duties include : maintaining positive therapeutic relationships, reporting patient observations, organizing supplies, assisting with patient / family orientation, safeguarding patient privacy, using proper safety practices, utilizing body mechanics, and demonstrating proficiency with the continuous virtual care platform. The work schedule varies, and this position is not virtual or telework-eligible. Functional Statement # : 03116F, 03117F, 03118F. Relocation / Recruitment Incentives : Not Authorized. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) : Not Authorized. Requirements include U.S. Citizenship, proficiency in written and spoken English, and passing a pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required. Upon completion of a trial period, continued employment is contingent upon certification that the position advances the public interest.
Qualifications include United States Citizenship, and may qualify based on the Grandfathering Provision for current VHA employees. Basic requirements include citizenship and may qualify based on education or experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) include providing patient care, observing patient status, using equipment, and effective communication. Preferred experience includes nursing assistant work in a hospital setting, preferably an inpatient unit. The position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, and manual dexterity. It involves potentially long periods of walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. The NA may be exposed to infected patients, contaminated materials, and combative patients. The NA must complete annual employee health requirements.
