We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our engineering and project management teams, ensuring operational excellence, innovation, and on-time delivery. The ideal candidate will manage a team of 12 engineering and technical professionals, drive process improvements, and align design and production with customer requirements. This role requires strong experience in metal fabrication, manufacturing process improvement, and engineering leadership in a fast-paced custom production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the engineering department, including mechanical design, manufacturing engineering, estimating, and project management.
- Ensure projects meet on-time delivery, cost, and quality objectives.
- Develop and implement engineering processes to improve throughput, reduce waste, and enhance manufacturability.
- Collaborate with operations, production, quality, and sales teams to align engineering deliverables with customer expectations.
- Standardize documentation, drawings, and workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Mentor and develop a team of 12 engineering staff, fostering accountability and technical excellence.
- Support quoting and estimating for new fabrication projects.
- Manage technical customer interactions and resolve design or manufacturability issues.
- Evaluate and recommend new manufacturing technologies, automation, and equipment upgrades.
- Track key performance indicators, including on-time delivery, engineering throughput, and project completion efficiency.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in metal fabrication, machining, or a job shop environment.At least 3 years in a leadership or management role overseeing technical teams.Strong knowledge of fabrication methods, including laser cutting, forming, welding, and machining.Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stage manufacturing projects from concept through production.Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Proficiency in CAD systems, with SolidWorks preferred, and ERP or MRP systems.Demonstrated success in improving engineering processes and achieving on-time delivery targets.Why Join Us
