Job description

Applications are being accepted by the College Place School District for a Paraeducator Life Skills assigned to Davis Elementary. This assignment is being posted for internal and external consideration at this time. Interested internal candidates will need to apply online by 2 : 00 pm Thursday, September25, 2025 to be considered prior to external candidate applicants.

POSITION & BENEFITS :

Job Title : Paraprofessional - Life Skills

Reports to : Assigned Building Principal

Bargaining Group : ESE

FLSA Status : Non-Exempt

Position : 7 hours per day, 190 days per school year (10 months)

Salary : $20.06 - $26.33 per hour (educational incentive available in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated)

Anticipated Start Date : 10 / 01 / 2025

Benefits : Medical / Dental / Vision, FSA / DCAP, Life / AD&D through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board); and Retirement through DRS (Department of Retirement Systems) for eligible employees

Additional Benefits : Optional 403(b) retirement plan; Optional DCP (deferred compensation program) retirement plan

Leave : 9 sick days (pro-rated for mid-year hires), 10 paid holidays

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • 18 years of age; and
  • High school diploma or equivalent; and
  • Meet the Washington State Paraeducator Minimum Employment requirements by showing evidence of one of the following :

Associate degree; or

  • At least 72 quarter or 48 semester credits of 100 level courses or higher; or
  • Pass the ETS Para-Pro Assessment with a score of 461 or higher. Applicable fees paid by applicant ; and
  • Background check through Washington State Patrol, as required by RCW 43.43.830. Applicable fees paid by applicant ; and
  • Completion of Safe Schools Web-Based Training at hire and annually thereafter
  • Effective oral and written communication in the English language, including correct grammar and spelling usage;
  • Ability to learn and apply new skills
  • Skills in organization and time management
  • Ability to show flexibility and good judgment
  • Ability to interact positively and confidentially with individuals from diverse linguistic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Ability to successfully implement educational programs and manage student behavior with direction from certificated staff
  • Ability to maintain composure in high stress situations where students may exhibit aggression, non-compliance, and other conduct problems.
  • Willingness to complete training on restraint and / or de-escalation as required for the position.
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with staff, community and students
  • Ability to walk, sit, squat, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, reach and lift to attend to the physical needs of the students
  • Ability to lift up to approximately 40 pounds
  • Ability to carry up to 30 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds regularly
  • ADDITIONAL SKILLS : Bilingual / biliterate in Spanish is considered helpful. District tests to verify skill levels.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Administers tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc., for the purpose of supporting certificated staff in the instructional process.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments (i.e., reading and math activities, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and / or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching their academic goals and grade level standards, or IEP goals.
  • Attends functions as assigned (e.g. meetings, in-service presentations, trainings, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and / or applying information relative to job functions. Confers with certificated staff as may be required for the purpose of providing input into the evaluation of students' progress and / or implementing / modifying students' objectives.
  • Guides students in independent study (e.g. enrichment work, remedial work, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student success.
  • Under the supervision of assigned staff member, implements instructional programs and lesson plans provided by the certificated staff member for the purpose of assisting the classified staff member in improving student academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Maintains classroom resources, work area, student files / records (e.g. adapting instructional materials, audio visual equipment, bulletin boards, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and / or providing reliable information.
  • Monitors individual and / or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus loading / unloading, etc.) for the purpose of identifying required assistance and ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. copying, correcting papers, completing attendance verifications, taking and recording phone calls, etc.) for the purpose of supporting certificated staff and / or in providing necessary records / materials. Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and / or administrative personnel.
  • Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and / or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Supports classroom teachers and other certificated staff members (i.e., OT, SLP, etc.) for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of curriculum and teaching methodologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAEDUCATOR : In addition to the basic paraeducator duties listed above, a special education paraeducator's duties may also include :

  • Assisting students with clothing, movement, and toilet usage.
  • Assist individual students to understand and overcome social and emotional problems.
  • Working closely with certificated staff in planning and carrying out the IEP's (Individual Education Plans).
  • Completing any other special education program-related tasks assigned by the assigned certificated staff or administrator.
  • This job may require interaction with students displaying aggression, non-compliance, and other conduct problems.
