Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job :
The School of Nursing’s (SON) learning mission is composed of three complementary broad areas of pedagogy, didactic, clinical, and experiential learning. Together, these pedagogical threads intertwine to create a cohesive, coordinated, and coherent delivery of learning that has a synergistic effect on students’ learning.
The ADEL assists the Director of the SON by ensuring that through direct supervision or delegation, the experiential learning labs are enabling students to meet the SON’s educational objectives and our accreditor’s required competencies. The leader works under minimum direction and supervises employees while performing advanced complex managerial work.
In fulfillment of the leadership responsibilities of this position, the ADEL will : Actively participate on the Assistant / Associate Director Team and Executive Team in the leadership of the SON. Collaboratively envision, develop, communicate, and implement a pedagogical vision for experiential learning at the SON. Lead in strategy deployment to meet the pedagogical vision and educational objectives for experiential learning ensuring alignment and proper leveling of competencies. Manage and supervise experiential learning lab staff by directing day to day program activities of staff, approving schedules, identifying priorities, setting standards for achieving goals, and regularly evaluating performance. Manage and supervise experiential learning faculty ensuring adherence to the standards of best practice and our program and course objectives. Identify and coordinate professional development opportunities for experiential learning staff and faculty to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in meeting the SON’s educational mission. Conduct ongoing evaluation and implementation of best practices through a systematic approach to continuous improvement, involving teaching, learning and outcomes of our students throughout the program. Generate related reports as needed. Develop, implement, evaluate, and oversee compliance with policies and procedures. Develop, review, and monitor budget and related activities for the experiential learning labs.
The operational and teaching duties and responsibilities of this position include : Collaboration with all stakeholders to create, implement, and evaluate experiential learning activities, including IPE to meet the educational objectives of the SON. Collaborate in the development of processes for efficient use of experiential learning lab spaces, equipment and digital resources. Oversee all pedagogy, teaching activities, and personnel associated with the Experiential Learning course series. Review all traditional and digital learning products for educational effectiveness and optimization across the curriculum. Other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements for the Position :
Earned Masters or Doctorate in nursing or related field from an accredited institution; Doctoral degree preferred. Required certification in simulation (CHSOS or CHSE). Must hold an active, or be eligible for, an unencumbered Texas Registered Nurse license.
Experience Required for the Position :
Minimum 3 years leadership experience in simulation and skills labs for pre-licensure nursing education. 3 years leadership experience in academic environment and 5 years’ experience in healthcare simulation as an educator or nurse educator. Minimum 2 years’ experience deploying standardized patient program in simulation and skills activities in pre-licensure curriculum
Preferred minimum 2 years’ experience in clinical nursing practice in an acute care setting.
Demonstrated involvement in professional service. Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and collegiality.
Other Requirements for the Position :
Required use of technology in instruction and / or practice. Preferred mechanical skills to competently maintain & use equipment in the simulation center
