Job description

Job Purpose

The purpose of this job is to identify and provide material specifications for component manufacturing and analyze parts for failure diagnosis in support of HRC’s high performance engineering projects. Position will be responsible for raw material specification development and updates, manufacturing support, problem resolution, identification of materials and process needs, including generating data required for design, analysis, and qualification as related to advance materials and processes.

Key Accountabilities

Failure Analysis – Design :

Understand component design criteria and recommend suitable materials, treatments, and coatings.

  • Consider mechanical / thermal loads, environment, weight, cost, and schedule.
  • Review final material specifications for compliance with recommendations.

Failure Analysis – Development :

Inspect parts post-testing to assess design success or failure.

  • Analyze operating conditions and identify root causes of failures.
  • Recommend temporary or permanent countermeasures and document findings.
  • Manufacturing Support :

    Review first article submissions using non-destructive and destructive methods.

  • Verify material condition, treatments, and coatings against design specs.
  • Provide recommendations and assist with quality checks; document and report results.
  • Laboratory Equipment & Consumables :

    Schedule and coordinate maintenance, repairs, and updates for lab equipment.

  • Maintain records of calibration, service history, and inventory of spares and supplies.
  • Liaise with vendors for service calls.
  • Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

    Education :

    BS degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical, Chemical, Polymer Science, Chemistry, or related field; or equivalent work experience.

    Experience :

    1–3 years in Materials Engineering.

  • Hands-on experience with internal combustion race engines and related systems (electronic / mechanical) is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; strong team collaboration.
  • Technical Skills :

    Proficient in material specifications and testing procedures.

  • Skilled in testing, analysis, and applying engineering principles to high-performance projects.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and apply standard codes.
  • Proficient with MS Office and PC-based tools.
  • Familiarity with equipment and machinery required for job tasks.

    Evaluate component specifications and adjust if necessary : Discuss problem, changes, and justification with supervisor.

    Maintain PDCA methodology and adjust : Identify and communicate problems before they occur.

    Recommend quality improvement processes for suppliers.

    Improve operating efficiency : Recommend procedural improvements to supervisor.

    Policy and Procedure adherence : Provide acceptance criteria.

    Test result evaluation : Coordinate testing schedule and reporting.

    Working Conditions

    Exposure to hazards (e.g., chemicals and machinery) is associated with this job.

    Work is executed indoors and requires both standing and sitting for a considerable length of time. Ability to carry a load up to 20 lbs within the laboratory is expected. Ability to work overtime when needed is required. No travelling is associated with this job.
