We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automation / Process Control Engineer to join our Baton Rouge refinery team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations by supporting, developing, and maintaining process control systems. You'll work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to optimize production processes through automation technologies and advanced control strategies.
Key Responsibilities :
Design, implement, and maintain Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
Monitor and troubleshoot control system issues to maintain steady-state operations and minimize unplanned downtime.
Collaborate with process engineers to develop and deploy Advanced Process Control (APC) and optimization strategies.
Support control system upgrades, migrations, and cybersecurity initiatives in line with corporate standards and industry best practices.
Provide technical support for instrumentation and control system projects, including scope development, design review, and commissioning.
Analyze process data to identify trends and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, reliability, and product quality.
Participate in hazard reviews (HAZOP / LOPA), Management of Change (MOC), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes.
Train operations and maintenance personnel on control systems and best practices.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
3+ years of experience in a refinery, petrochemical, or industrial manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of process control systems (e.g., Honeywell, Emerson DeltaV, ABB, Yokogawa, or similar platforms).
Experience with field instrumentation, control valves, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC, Foundation Fieldbus).
Familiarity with process safety and regulatory compliance in refining or chemical processing environments.
Proficient in programming, tuning, and troubleshooting control loops and logic.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience with Advanced Process Control (APC) applications.
Knowledge of cybersecurity standards related to industrial control systems (ISA / IEC 62443).
Professional Engineering (PE) license or working toward one.
