Description
Reporting to the Director of Academic Advising, the Academic Advisor is responsible for providing academic and career advising to a variety of students. The advisor is a resource for all Rivier students as they plan their academic experience and intended career path.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work : Full-time, 52 weeks per year., working on-site in person at our Nashua campus Monday - Friday 8 : 30 - 5 : 00 with occasional evenings and weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide academic advising for students by meeting individually and in groups at orientation programs and throughout the year.
- Assist students with decisions about majors and the process of declaring / changing majors, guide students during course enrollment periods, provide information on academic support resources, and help students develop a responsible approach to academic planning.
- Provide career counseling / coaching to students at all levels, individually and in groups.
- Assist students in identifying interests and abilities.
- Facilitate career development workshops, introduce students to career resources, review resumes and job search correspondence, guide students through graduate and professional school options, and guide students on how to make effective choices.
- Create, organize, and support major Career Development Center events such as career fairs, internship programs, graduate and professional school fairs, and various first-year orientation events.
- Collaborate with faculty and Academic Affairs for the most current information for students and a continuous feedback loop to benefit students.
- Contribute to efforts related to outcomes assessment of student learning and evaluation of programs and services.
- Support institutional, divisional, and departmental mission and goals.
- Participate in planning, serve on committees / task force groups, and engage in professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in student personnel administration, higher education, or a related field is required.Possess knowledge of the principles, practices used in academic advising, career development, and career counseling, and a willingness to obtain additional training related to performing position duties.Strong written and oral communication skills. Experience with group facilitation, program presentation, and teaching.A minimum of 1-3 years of professional experience in a higher education setting is preferred.Self-starter, ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to advocate for and support the academic, personal, and professional needs of the University.Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff and maintain collegial relations.Flexibility and adaptability in an emerging and changing environment.Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage confidential information.Computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications, including word-processing, and reporting platforms, as well as online calendaring and email (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Colleague, and Canvas).Supplemental Information
