The position of right-of-way was created to help achieve the purpose for which the Cooperative was organized, that is to provide adequate and abundant central station electric service to all members at the lowest possible cost consistent with sound business principles.
By providing for specific operational duties and responsibilities to be fulfilled to achieve this objective include clearing and re-clearing right-of-way for the construction, maintenance and service of electrical distribution lines and equipment consistent with job training and safety management practices. The right-of-way worker shall :
A. Actively participate in all phases of right-of-way clearance, including tree trimming, brush clearance and related duties.
B. Assist the line crew, under supervision of the crew chief, in construction of lines including hole digging, pole framing and setting, and anchor installation as assigned.
C. Operate vehicles, tools and equipment in a safe manner, and observe all safety rules and regulations adopted by the Cooperative.
D. Perform other emergency or operational duties as requested and assigned.
The right-of-way worker will carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position in conformity with established policies and procedures. His supervisor shall be the Right-of-Way Crew Foreman and the Operations Manager.
He / she is encouraged to use initiative and judgment in making decisions, remembering that the Cooperative's best interests are affected by his / her actions. He / she is encouraged to make suggestions for the improvement of operations and efficiency. He / she shall secure the approval of right-of-way crew chief in making decisions when policies are not clear or adequate, or require interpretation.
High school diploma or GED required. Should have good math background in order to successfully complete job related technical training. Courses in basic electricity desirable.
Must have sound knowledge of proper and safe use of the tools and equipment utilized in right-of-way cleaning and maintenance, both energized and de-energized. Should have a thorough knowledge of first aid applications, CPR, and rescue procedures.
Outside work in all kinds of weather. Subject to call 24 hours per day, including -weekends and holidays. Regular and strenuous physical activity may be required as well as climbing, lifting, pulling, pushing, lifting of heavy object in the course of a normal work situation.
Must reside within twenty-five (25) miles of the cooperative main office. Must prove residency within the twenty-five mile limit by presenting a utility bill in the name of the prospective employee.
To determine qualifications of prospects, tests shall be administered including mechanical, reasoning, space relations, verbal reasoning, and problem solving to determine the applicant's ability to perform the duties required for this and other positions for which applicant may apply.
