Job Summary
The Produce Lead is responsible for overseeing produce operations, ensuring adherence to company policies, maintaining product quality and freshness, and optimizing inventory management. This role focuses on operational excellence, ensuring compliance with food safety, merchandising, and replenishment standards while supporting business performance. The Produce Lead does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but plays a critical role in ensuring smooth department operations. A valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification is required and must be maintained in good standing. BJ's covers any applicable cost associated and training.
Responsibilities
Lead Produce Department Operations : maintain produce freshness by executing regular culling and rotation, ensuring all products meet company quality standardsManage Inventory Proactively : ensure proper product availability by monitoring inventory levels and executing timely replenishment to maintain in-stock conditionsDemonstrate Full Proficiency : perform operational functions of the department, including inspecting, rotating, culling, and merchandising fresh produce to company standardsAccurate Item Labeling : ensure all items are accurately priced, labeled, and compliant with company policiesAnalyze Production and Sales : track and analyze sales, waste, and shrink data to identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reductionSanitation and Safety Compliance : maintain compliance with all sanitation, safety, and food handling regulations, including ServSafe guidelines, while ensuring cleanliness and maintenance of equipmentSeasonal Promotional Execution : assist in executing promotional plans and merchandising directivesReport Operational Concerns : escalate operational concerns and equipment maintenance needs to management as necessaryExecute proper product rotation : apply FIFO (First In, First Out) rotation procedures to reduce waste and maintain qualityRoutine Case Inspections : conduct daily inspections of produce cases, coolers, and freezersReceiving and Inspection : assist with receiving and inspecting shipments to verify accuracyInventory Audit Support : support inventory audits and reconciliation efforts to minimize shrinkStocking Strategy Optimization : understand product movement, seasonal trends, and Member purchasing habits to optimize stockingProduct Quality Assurance : monitor product freshness and conduct quality checksPerform other duties as assigned : provide additional support across departments as neededMaintain regular, predictable attendance : demonstrate consistent presence to support operationsQualifications
2+ years of experience in produce operations, grocery retail, or food handlingStrong knowledge of produce handling, quality standards, and food safety guidelinesAbility to analyze data and identify process improvements to optimize efficiencyDetail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking skillsProficiency in basic computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Email)Must be at least 18 years of ageMaintains all training and required certificationsJob Conditions

Actual salaries vary by location, education, experience, and qualifications. The starting pay for this position is $18.50 per hour.
