Unit Description – Cath Lab Tech Unit Type

Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory

Interventional Cardiology & Radiology Procedures

Adult and Geriatric patient population

Staffing & Scheduling

Shift : 4×10 Days (06 : 30–17 : 00)

Call required : Up to 4 days / week depending on department needs

Weekend requirement : Up to 2 weekends per 6-week schedule

Float : Not typically required

Self-scheduling model

Orientation : 30 hours

Daily Workflow & Caseload

Daily procedure volume : 4–8 cases / day

Room count : 2 procedure rooms

Procedures include cardiac, peripheral vascular, and electrophysiology work

High involvement in both diagnostic and interventional cases

Patient Diagnoses

Coronary artery disease

Peripheral vascular disease

Cardiac arrhythmias

Patients requiring diagnostic or interventional procedures

Candidates for permanent pacemaker procedures

Core Procedures Cardiac Cath Lab

Adult diagnostic catheterizations

Left & right heart catheterization

PCI, PTCA

Cardiac stent placement

Impella insertion

Temporary pacemaker

Permanent pacemaker insertion

Hemodynamic monitoring

Electrophysiology

Pacemaker insertion

AICD insertion / programming

Cardioversion

Peripheral & Vascular

Peripheral angiography

Thrombectomy / thrombolysis

Endovascular interventions

Carotid stenting

Dialysis graft creation / revision

Upper & lower extremity angiography

TIPS

IR / General Procedures

Liver biopsy

Paracentesis

Thoracentesis

IVC filter placement

Stent placements

Gastrostomy tube placement

Coil embolization / peripherals

Full sterile scrub responsibilities

Equipment setup, sterile field maintenance

Inventory management and supply restocking

Experience Requirements

2 years Cath Lab experience required

Diagnostic and interventional experience required

EP Lab and IR experience preferred

Travel experience : Not required

First-time travelers : Accepted if strong skills

ARRT or Fluoroscopy permit required

RCIS accepted only with significant experience (per manager review)

Certifications Required

BLS

ACLS

ARRT R or Fluoroscopy Permit

RCIS preferred with 5+ years experience (if ARRT unavailable)

Additional Notes

RTO must be submitted with profile

Pending fluoro permit may be considered if already submitted

Scrubs : dark solid colors for radiology roles

Guaranteed hours : facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
