As part of General Dynamics Marine Systems, Bath Iron Works (BIW) is a full-service shipyard specializing in the design, building and support of complex surface combatants for the U.S. Navy. BIW's rich history reflects a continuous pattern of innovation, new technology and process improvements. Today, we are revolutionizing naval shipbuilding. Since 1884, we have continued our tradition of leadership in technology and innovation. Engineering tasking, responsibilities, and hiring level will be based on experience.

The Engineering team is seeking Electrical Engineers to support the team. The successful candidate may be responsible for supporting development, specification, arrangement, manufacturing, installation, testing, of Electrical Power, Lighting, and Controls systems installed shipboard, or in support of shipboard system operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • \n Safety Leadership :

Be a safety leader for your team and ensure that each person leaves in the condition they came in. Ensure all safety trainings are completed on time.

\n

\n

  • \n Project / Task Execution : \n
  • Develop ship power and controls systems through tasks and projects involving engineers across disciplines, subcontractors, or the customer.

    \n

  • Perform reliability / risk assessments on designs, methodologies, or processes.
  • \n

  • Perform systems engineering, system integration, or project related tasks including requirements analyses, requirements decomposition, developing and evaluating operational requirements, developing software requirements, resolution of requirements conflicts, specification development, and management of budget and schedule.
  • \n

  • Perform modeling, simulation, and calculations to validate designs and ensure they meet project / customer requirements
  • \n

  • Develop / maintain and provide technical leadership for all assigned systems, diagrams, calculations, models, simulations, purchase specifications, and related tasking.
  • \n

  • Review / Approve vendor equipment and other engineering documentation such as drawings, manuals, software, models, or other design documents produced as a part of external vendor contracts.
  • \n

  • Support vendor qualification testing and test approval.
  • \n

  • Interface with Navy and other customers, Construction Trades, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Fleet Service Engineering, Planning Yard, Equipment vendors, and Design teams through appropriate correspondence to support manufacturing, test, commissioning efforts, dock trials, sea trials, and resolve technical issues with assigned systems / tasking.

  • Complete technical reports and conduct verbal presentations as required.
  • \n

  • Develop and manage process improvements and cost-out initiatives to improve group performance.
  • \n

  • Support development of scopes of work in support of contract proposals.
  • \n

  • Work with engineering development team and management to design, build, improve, and deploy software tools that support business needs as required.
  • \n

  • Develop supporting documentation, procedures, tests, or training materials.
  • \n \n

    \n

  • \n Team Collaboration and Communication : \n
  • Collaborate effectively within the team and with other groups both internal and external.

    \n

  • Facilitate communication between Engineers and Designers to ensure successful engineering and design processes.
  • \n

  • Interface with and support Design, Engineering, Program Office, Systems Integration and Concept Design Development, Change Management, Estimating, Contracts, Materials, Planning, Manufacturing, Navy and other customer organizations as required.
  • \n \n

    \n

  • \n Continuous Improvement : \n
  • Support proper and up to date process documentation for electrical engineering processes.

    \n

  • Focus on Lean Six Sigma principles to both remove waste and variation from processes.
  • \n

  • Support creation of plans for areas of improvement and conduct projects to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and reduce cycle times.
  • \n \n

    Required / Preferred Education / Training

    \n

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree is required .
  • \n

  • A Master's degree in Engineering or P.E. is preferred.
  • \n

  • Working knowledge of the following discipline(s) are required : Power and Controls Engineering.
  • \n

    Required / Preferred Experience

    Engineer I - 0-1 years of experience preferred

    Engineer II - 1-3 years of experience required

    Engineer III - 3-5 years of experience required

    \n

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; adept at giving technical presentations at group meetings.
  • \n

  • Ability to lead, organize, plan, and execute projects.
  • \n

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a positive team environment.
  • \n

  • Demonstrated ability to work multiple priorities simultaneously, and to completion.
  • \n

  • Strong Project Management skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Project is preferred.
  • \n

  • Highly motivated, strong attention to detail with proven ability to work independently.
  • \n

  • Some travel required.
  • \n

  • Operation of Microsoft Windows, Windows Software, and Microsoft Office products.
  • \n

  • CAD skills are preferred.
  • \n

  • A broad knowledge of and experience with a variety of computer systems, networking, technologies, troubleshooting is preferred, including network communication and protocols and data collection.
  • \n

  • Experience working on power systems and power system troubleshooting and testing is preferred.
  • \n

  • Experience with electrical software, calculations, and modeling is preferred.
  • \n

  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is preferred.
  • \n

  • Experience with Matlab / Simulink modeling and simulation is preferred.
  • \n

  • Software development skills are preferred.
  • \n

  • Data architecture and data management skills including database design and development are preferred.
  • \n

  • Lean Six Sigma training and / or experience is preferred.
  • \n

  • Must have ability to obtain a secret clearance.
  • \n This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.
