Job Description :

• Provide professional nursing care to students in a student health services unit, or to inmates, juvenile offenders, or consumers in state-owned / operated facilities.
• Observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients.
• Make nursing rounds, take and record vitals, and prepare and administer prescribed medications and treatment plans.
• Monitor patients in restricted conditions on a timely basis and provide immediate medical attention to emergencies.
• Schedule, assign, and review work of lower-level staff, participate in staff development and education, and train and orient new employees.
• Oversee healthcare, make rounds, evaluate care, and perform specialized procedures, including IV therapy, chemotherapy, wound care, oxygen therapy, dialysis, blood transfusion, and more.
• Organize and oversee emergency response teams and direct healthcare staff.
• Assist physician in providing diagnostic health evaluations.
• Perform clerical tasks, maintain records, and complete required reports.
• Arrange outpatient clinic appointments and new and refilled prescriptions.
• Perform administrative tasks, serve as liaison within the organization, conduct meetings, serve as instructor, and participate in problem-solving teams.

MAJOR WORKER CHARACTERISTICS :

• Knowledge of professional registered nursing procedures; state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to nursing; public relations; employee training and development; inventory control.
• Skilled in the operation of medical equipment (e.g., stethoscope, otoscope, blood pressure cuff, EKG machine).
• Ability to deal with some abstract but mostly concrete variables; write meaningful, concise, and accurate reports; gather, collate, and classify information about data, people, or things; demonstrate physical fitness.
