Job description

We are looking for an ESS Applications Engineer to work in Metro Detroit. This is a direct opportunity with our client. As an ESS Applications Engineer, you will be responsible for the following :

Sales and Business Development technical support duties include :

  • Provide local technical support to customers
  • Develop close relationships across customer organizations including senior technical management
  • Influence customer products / systems requirements around most pertinent offering by developing strong Energy Storage system value propositions tailored to customer
  • Support the development of responsive proposals, and actively participate in negotiating winning contracts
  • Review and improve tenders from Korean tendering team to American customers
  • Prepare Energy Storage simulations for our customer to identify with them optimal sizing, lifecycle, technology, recommended operating modes
  • Provide early technical consulting to customers developing their Energy Storage projects, building a solid technical-business case and making them become a reality
  • Negotiate performance guarantees during project contracting
  • Establish influential relationships with key industry partners including system integrators, EPCs, PCS providers, AHJs, and standardization committee organizations
  • Actively participate in key industry organizations and identify new opportunities through presentations, papers and committee membership.

Ongoing projects' execution technical support duties include :

  • Coordinate with Project Manager to ensure that all project technical duties and milestones are properly addressed (either by Korean Center of Excellence or locally)
  • Review and participate to Site Acceptance Tests to ensure their success
  • Ensure projects technical Quality Assurance, while providing feedback to Project Management and Korean Center of Excellence to ensure continuous improvement.
  • After sales and maintenance services technical support duties include :

  • Address technical issues locally during the project installation, commissioning, and on-going service support
  • Coordinate with Account Manager to ensure all support and maintenance service contract technical related issues are promptly addressed to customer satisfaction
  • Ensure Energy Storage lifecycle technical Quality Assurance, while providing feedback to Account Management and Korean Center of Excellence to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Technical coordination with Korean Center of Excellence duties include :

  • Identify and develop new applications for large format lithium ion battery modules, trays & racks, integrated DC box solution
  • Provide guidance on all required local standards (i.e. UL , NFPA) for R&D roadmap
  • Identify and promote new product development to meet the current and future needs of energy storage customers
  • Coordinate with business teams in distributed locations with particular emphasis on the headquarter based technical and commercial teams in Korea Report market and competitive trends.
  • Requirements

  • Previous Utility-scale or Commercial & Industrial battery technical experience
  • Communicates smoothly with our customers with a positive attitude at all times
  • Minimum 5 years technical experience in related industries including renewable energy power generation, stationary energy storage, or other battery intensive industry;
  • Good communication skills; logical expression and pressure resistance.
  • Field experience, hands-on practice and knowledge about Energy Storage Systems preferred, or similar experience acquired in utility and power, or renewable energy sectors.
  • Experience in Li-ion Battery Technology and associated risks.
  • Experience on Renewable Energy such as PV and Wind, Grid connections, Power Conversion systems, BESS applications to provide grid ancillary services.
  • No restriction traveling in all America Region / Must be able to drive a car throughout America
  • Must be to travel up to 30%
  • Preferred Requirements

  • Experience in pre-sales, solutions engineering, or similar role, in the li-ion / energy storage systems or automotive industry a plus.
  • Strong technical background with expertise in renewable energy and / or battery systems, and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Experience on Battery Inverter, Power Conversion System and / or Energy Management Systems (Power Plant Controllers)
  • Methodological knowledge on how to conduct Root Cause Analysis (practical experience is a plus)
  • Wide knowledge about US Codes & Standards related to DC power installation, or HV circuit installation (knowledge of Energy Storage Systems standards is a plus).
  • Safety certification for electrical hazards
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (Korean is a plus)
  • Education

  • Bachelors Field : Electrical Engineering, Power System Engineering, or related field
