News Director, Pitchfork — Condé Nast
Pitchfork is the most trusted voice in music. Pitchfork has defined how music is covered and is part of Condé Nast since its acquisition in 2015. This role plans, oversees, and executes editorial strategy, workflow, and coverage for the News section, and coordinates with editors and departments on features, reviews, and breaking news.
Location : New York, NY
Responsibilities
- Oversee news section strategy, KPIs, and team scheduling alongside senior management
- Supervise Associate Staff Writers and Staff Writers on designated news days
- Supervise night and weekend news and manage cross-site publishing during nights and weekends
- Collaborate with other senior editors and senior management on brand-wide projects
- Edit features, columns and lists as needed
- Liaise with senior editors on features or reviews tied to breaking news
- Assign, research, report, write, edit, and fact-check news stories
- Build and publish posts in the content management system; optimize news posts for SEO
- Post on social media and gather / edit images; handle corrections
- Manage homepage placement of stories; coordinate with other departments, fact-checkers, producers, art, and social media
- Write and edit for other site sections as needed; occasional artist interviews or appearances for video or podcast projects
Skills And Qualifications
Experience writing and editing news on quick-turnaround deadlinesAt least one year of experience overseeing a teamActive follower of current music newsAbility to work independently with meticulous attention to detail in a fast-paced environmentAbility to self-motivate, meet deadlines, and take initiativeCapacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to shifting responsibilitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skills; able to give and receive direct feedbackWillingness to be part of a close-knit, collaborative teamKnowledge of and interest in the history, style, and voice of PitchforkCompensation and Benefits
The expected base salary range for this position is from $105,000-$110,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
