Minimum Biweekly Rate of Pay : $1,751.77 (In accordance with current spending restrictions, if the appointment is an internal promotion, the position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee's current rate, whichever higher.)

Position Description

This is a highly responsible position in the criminal justice system. The employee is expected to perform all the duties in the optimum responsible manner, demonstrate leadership by being a positive role model for staff, youth and the community, and treat all persons with dignity and respect.

Responsibilities include maintaining a safe and secure environment for youth and staff, ensuring a zero-tolerance atmosphere for detained youth escapes, abuse, sexual harassment, and inappropriate conduct, and assisting in the operation of a secure detention center while upholding youths' constitutional rights with emphasis on legal, medical, and mental health needs.

• Adhere to agency or facility policies and procedures; maintain a safe environment.
• Assist supervisor to ensure services and programming for detained youth comply with court orders, policies, procedures, and Quality Assurance standards.
• Complete training to dispense medications to youth; distribute medications in the absence of a designated medical authority or nurse.
• Perform duties in Master Control, admissions, releases, and transportation as necessary.
• Supervise youth activities; use verbal directives, counseling, and Protective Action Response (PAR) as needed according to policies.
• Inspect facility, youth, visitors and packages for contraband.
• Train and coach employees; orient them to facility policies and procedures.
• In the absence of the supervisor, assume acting supervisor duties.
• Prepare incident reports and records; document violations of procedures, rules, and statutes; coordinate court appearances and transportation as required.
• Use security and emergency equipment to maintain safety.
• Complete required checks (10-minute, 5-minute, or Constant Sight / Uninterrupted Sound) for youths in confinement or designated as at-risk.
• Assess information from the Juvenile Justice Information System and maintain detained youth counts as directed.
• Attend and complete required training; perform CPR, AED and First Aid as trained; participate in required meetings.
• Maintain a valid Driver License and report changes within 72 hours; comply with driving restrictions for state business.
