Position Details

The Department of Psychology at The University of Tampa is seeking a diverse pool of qualified candidates for a full-time appointment as an Assistant Teaching Professor to begin August 2026 . This is a renewable, non-tenure track, clinical and instructional faculty position, with promotion opportunities. Instructional faculty are respected members of the department and have the principal responsibility of providing instruction and support to students, and while instructional faculty are expected to maintain currency in their fields, they are not required to have a research agenda. Candidates should have a Ph.D in either Counseling or Clinical Psychology or be ABD with expected graduation prior to August 2026. Candidates should be licensed to practice psychology in the State of Florida by August 2027.

We are looking for someone with college teaching experience and training in evidence-based treatment approaches to join the faculty as part of a thriving undergraduate department that has recently received university approval to offer a graduate MA degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. The Assistant Teaching Professor selected will also serve as the Field Placement Coordinator in the graduate program. Undergraduate teaching responsibilities in the first year will include 12 credit hours (a typical class is 4 credits) per semester that may include Inquiry into Clinical and Counseling Psychology (200-level), Abnormal Psychology (300-level) and other psychology courses as needed. In addition, the Fieldwork Placement Coordinator in the first year will seek to establish internship agreements at community placements sites in preparation for the graduate program launch. Future graduate teaching responsibilities will include Theories and Classification of Psychopathology, Fieldwork Supervision, and Practicum. Additional position responsibilities will include undergraduate student advising and committee service.

The psychology department at The University of Tampa currently has 20 full-time faculty and approximately 550 undergraduate majors. Undergraduates are offered a high-quality educational experience and are provided with training in the clinical, organizational, biopsychology, cognitive, social, and developmental subfields. Experiential education is emphasized with numerous opportunities for faculty-mentored student research, internships, and service learning.
