A s a Child Protective Services Caseworker at Intake , your primary responsibility will be to receive and document referrals with concerns of child abuse and / or neglect from professionals, mandated reporters, and members of the community. Most referrals are received via telephone, though at times you may meet with a reporter in person at the Intake Office to obtain a report. As an Intake Caseworker, you will work collaboratively with Intake supervisors in determining if criteria for child protective assessment have been met, the level of risk and urgency of the report, and in directing the report to the appropriate statewide district office for response. In this position, staff must also be familiar with Adult Protective programs as you also receive referrals for suspected adult abuse / neglect after 5pm, on weekends, and on holidays.
The Intake Unit is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As an Intake Caseworker you must be able and willing to work night and / or weekend shifts. Both of our current vacancies involve after-hours and weekend shifts.
Successful candidates will be :
Work requires overtime including occasional assigned shifts to meet operational needs
Minimum Qualifications : A Bachelors Degree from an accredited educational institution in Social Work / Social Welfare; OR a Bachelors Degree in a related social service / social welfare / social work area which includes at least 12 courses in behavioral science, social science, or social work; AND must have or be eligible for conditional or full licensure as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) as determined by the Maine State Board of Social Worker Licensure.
SPECIAL NOTE : Individuals with four (4) years professional case management experience and who were previously granted full licensure under grandfathering provisions authorized by the Maine State Board of Social Worker Licensure are exempted from these requirements.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT : Applicants must have or be eligible for conditional or full licensure at the Licensed Social Worker (LSW) level as issued by the Maine State Board of Social Work Licensure. An LSW requires an earned BA / BS in social work / social welfare. An LSW-Conditional requires an earned BA / BS in a field related to social work / social welfare.
