Medical Assistant, Casual Hourly

The Medical Assistant, Casual Hourly, provides patient care and operational support to Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Registered Nurses within the clinical areas of University Health Services. The Medical Assistant, Casual Hourly, responsibilities include direct patient care, general housekeeping, clerical, food service, inventory and supply maintenance, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Clinical Care, 50%

Assists Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Registered Nurses (clinicians) as directed to provide care for patients.

• Enter students into the Infirmary schedule.
• Takes vital signs : temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and breath alcohol analysis, and reports any abnormalities to clinicians.
• Assists patients with ambulation and activities of daily living as needed.
• Monitors patients on a one-to-one basis as directed by clinicians.
• Reports any pertinent information regarding patient status to clinicians.
• Performs point of care diagnostic tests as directed by clinicians, based on scope of practice.
• Performs hand off care with oncoming and outgoing Nurse Aides / Nursing Assistants / Medical Assistants.

Assists Registered Nurse to provide emergency after-hours care to students.

Other clinical tasks as delegated by the Registered Nurse on duty.

Operations, 30%

Assists in providing a clean, safe environment in the Infirmary unit and other areas as needed / designated.

Daily stocking and maintenance of supplies

Administrative, 20%
