Duties Description

A Sign Crew Supervisor, as a working supervisor, may perform all the tasks and activities of a Highway Maintenance Worker 1, which are described in the Classification Standard for Highway Maintenance Worker 1. The incumbent will supervise a work crew in the performance of a variety of construction and maintenance tasks. The incumbent will interpret the MUTCD manual to determine the correct sign size and placement, schedule work projects and make individual work assignments to crew members based on priorities, orally instruct crew members in the activities and tasks to be performed and answer any of their questions concerning work procedures, provide and explain simple written guidelines for work if they are available, observe work in progress and inspect completed work to ensure adherence to instructions, guidelines, and schedules, maintain records of work performed, materials and labor as part of a manual or automated maintenance management system, and has contact with the general public both in person and via telephone.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have possession of a New York State Class B Commercial Driver's License with DOT-specified endorsements and must meet either A or B qualification listed below : A. One year of sign crew experience and one year of permanent service in a title in the Highway Maintenance Division allocated at Grade 8 or above OR B. One year of experience as a lead worker or supervisor in a Highway Maintenance position allocated at Grade 10 or above.

Additional Comments

The starting salary for Sign Crew Supervisor is $54,081. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $45,081 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location. Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title and assignment. Cannabis use will be tested for during the pre-employment screening process and may be the basis for disqualification for employment or may be a basis for removal from employment. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
